But for Richard Prazen, an artisan who previously owned Pioneer Manufacturing and Weldings in West Valley City, Utah always has been a good place to operate a manufacturing business, “compared to other places I’ve been.”
So on the one hand he said he couldn’t “imagine us only getting a ‘C’ grade,” before acknowledging that times have been tough for a lot of the state’s small manufacturers as the state waded through the Great Recession. After creating such work as the giant arachnid that greets riders before they climb on the “Spider” roller coast at Lagoon, he turned over his business to a partner just prior to the downturn and hired on as an artisan with several other companies, only to fall prey to the wave of downsizing that swept the industry.
He now runs a small shop in South Jordan, where he manufactures custom-made iron railings and other metal work. “I have a sense that things are getting better,” he said.

2011 Seminary Graduation
Today at church we heard from our seminary graduates as well as Colton Weeks who is leaving this week to enter the MTC.
This evening at the Stake Center was the Seminary Graduation ceremony. Lucky Megan Harrison got to speak in both sacrament meeting and at Seminary Graduation.
This years graduates are Lindsay Jones, Ryan Lever and Megan Harrison. They have been lucky to have Bishop Peterson as their Bishop for the last 6 years.
Congratulations on your graduation!

Regional Basketball Champions!
The Teachers Team won the Region Championship Game on Saturday.
Players include: Austin Weeks, Tanner Burton, Josh Margetts, Josh VanWagenen, Josh Throckmorton, Mac Hedman and Garrick Poulson with Les Norton as their coach. (Brigham Hedman not pictured)
They had a GREAT season and played very well as a team!

Linda Dawson Obituary
Linda Dawson 1958 ~ 2011 Linda Dawson age 53 passed away in her sleep and returned to her Heavenly Father on January 15, 2011 at her home in South Jordan, Utah. Linda graduated from Cedar High School in Cedar City, Utah. Later in life she loved working for the LDS Church Educational System. Linda had been struggling with several health issues for the past 18 months. She leaves behind her husband Ron and three children. Keith Dawson, Brent Dawson, and Shenell Barlow. Linda was born October 26th 1958 and married to Ron December 18th 1976. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St George Temple. Her father Phillip Farnsworth Thorley and Elbert W. Barnhurst passed away years ago. Her Mother Verna Barnhurst is still living along with two brothers and three sisters; Reed Thorley, Burnell Thorley, Carol Smith, Marlin Redington, and Christy Adair. Linda was a dedicated member of the LDS Church. She was a loving mother and wife and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Ward Chapel at 1570 West 11400 South. Friends may come calling Friday evening at Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 South 2200 West from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.www.broomheadfuneralhome.com
