January Newsletter
I thought I'd post some stuff from the ward newsletter if you didn't get a chance to see it via email.
Bishopric Message
With the drama and excitement of the holiday season behind us, January brings an opportunity for reflection. Each of us can look back upon last year sometimes with a strong sense of accomplishment and sometimes with regrets for the things we didn’t do that we wanted to and the goals we set but didn’t accomplish. As we each take time this year to set new goals in our lives, let us not forget to seek for the inspiration from a loving Heavenly Father.
Richard G Scott in the November 2009 Ensign stated, “Father in Heaven knew that you would face challenges and be required to make some decisions that would be beyond your own ability to decide correctly. In His plan of happiness, He included a provision for you to receive help with such challenges and decisions during your mortal life. That assistance will come to you through the Holy Ghost as spiritual guidance. It is a power, beyond your own capability, that a loving Heavenly Father wants you to use consistently for your peace and happiness.”
Brothers and Sisters, I testify, as you are setting goals, by allowing the influence and power of the Holy Ghost to prompt and inspire you, you will feel a very personal love, a very personal awareness of a very involved Father in Heaven. His guiding hand can and will direct you. Bishop Barney has challenged each of us to read from the Book of Mormon daily. Not only to read for our normal 5-10 minutes but to double or triple our study time. We all have been asked to read the Book of Mormon completely through at least once this coming year and if possible 2,3 or even more times. All things are possible through Christ! I hope each of us can take this challenge to heart, set this as a priority goal for 2010. I know as we heed the counsel of our Bishop, as we strive to live the Gospel, as we serve and love one another, we will feel the true joy of being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
May each of you enjoy a prosperous and happy new year.

Looking for housing in the ward?
Part of my role as the "ward housing specialist" (I feel funny even calling it that), is helping people find a place to live or if people are looking for someone to fill a room, then I will help them get there.
With a blog, the housing information can be updated as soon as things change or as soon as people move in.
I have housing information for men and women.
For WOMEN:
people looking for a place to live:
1. Jena Hess jenahess@gmail.com
2. Rayla (getting married March 12 and needs a place until then)
looking for someone to fill a vacancy:
1. Lisa Andrews
2. Girl (I don't know her name) opening in January, rent: 375/month + utilities, large private room, shared bathroom, new appliances/furniture, located at Lindsey & Southern.
3. John Myers (will be renting out a recently renovated condo to 2 girls) opening in January, located at Arizona & Elliott, John.Myers@honeywell.com.
For MEN:
looking for a place to live:
1. Jon
2. Prince
looking for someone to fill a vacancy:
1. Garret Anthen
2. Adam shared room, 2 story house located at Alma School & Guadalupe, 195/month + shared utilities, has a washer/dryer, pool, cable Internet, lots of space. Call Bob.
3. Daniel Blackwin: 350/month (incl. utilities and dinner each night), house is in Tempe.
I decided it wasn't appropriate to leave phone numbers on the blog post, so if you want phone numbers, I have them all and I'd be more than happy to give them to you if you send me a quick email!
I hope this information is up to date and useful. If it's not up to date, please leave a comment and I can fix the housing information. And if you meet someone who would like to post a new housing vacancy or is looking for a place to live, please give them my email address or send them the link to this blog!
Thanks,
Annie Mooney

Welcome to the San Marcos Ward Blog!
Since it is my responsibility to facilitate communication in the ward, I thought what better way to share information than with a blog?! This blog won't just be updates for ward housing and monthly newsletters (although I will primarily use it for these functions). I would like to encourage posts by other ward members. If you want to share some pictures from a recent activity, or make an announcement, encourage a certain ward member, or bring an issue to everyone's attention, then feel free to write about it here. My goal is to make this as informative as the ward bulletin and as fun as facebook (Ideally, I would like every ward member to check the blog as often as their facebook, but we'll work our way up to that. I understand it's probably not a must-read yet). If you have any questions or comments, leave them here! I'll constantly be working to make this a better blog and to make it the best fit for the San Marcos Ward.
Sincerely,
Annie Mooney
