today is day #7 in the A-Z Blogging Challenge - which makes it: G-Day. looking back at the first week, i noticed how the alphabetic challenge adds a different tune to the single days, something almost melodic: G like gis-moll, G like garden, growth, genesis, going, germany, ground....

"Geometry" ... the photo is from Essen city in Germany, inspired by the photo friday theme "Geometry" - and also by the windows theme that was sparked by YB poetry magazine, and that i followed for a while after creating an 8 windows from 8 countries gallery for it

 "Generation Effect" ... was first published in the magazine "xstream", which isn't online anymore. but at least there's a cover page up in the waybackmachin: xStream...

8 windows from 8 countries
the new issue of YB is online. the theme: windows. as in: "Yah, windows! Well, where to start? New ones kept revealing themselves.."and they did. i looked for some possible images to send as submission, and from them, the idea for a window gallery developed: 8 windows from 8 countries.

to put the gallery together, i browsed the photo files from past journeys, and looked at them from a very different angle (or: thematic window). which lead to:

100 days
this expedition into my own photo files - where i came to revisit photos i had almost forgotten about  - opened the "window" to participate in this year's 100days project, and continue the photo journey there with changing themes, but with the same take: revisiting from a new angle. here's the blog link:

in the last couple of days, the approach brought me to: Bratislava/Slovakia, Mallorca/Spain, my own backyard 2 years ago, a Roman park 2 towns from here, and Leipzig. and this is only day 14. so much more to come.

My World, or: because they are ours

photo friday's theme for this week is: My World.

how to put that in a picture? i wondered. and looked through files. a collage might be an answer, i figured. but then, i liked the task: my world in 1 image. yesterday, i finally found it, a photo, and the story to go with it. the story of the window images. (and there it is again, the theme: windows).

from the ongoing series of sky diary photos in this blog, most are taken from the window here (the original tag indeed was "window", i noticed yesterday while window hunting). the reason for it: the first photos of the series were inspired by a task/share thread in a web forum - Lonely Planet Travellers. the simple task back then: "take a photo from the window of the room you are in."

many responded, some with stunning city skylines. one posted a simple image of a small garden, with some houses and trees beyond. "Nothing special, just the view from the window here," she wrote. to which someone answered: "Those views are special - because they are ours."

i still remember that take: our own views.

dislocated windows & home

today: hunting for windows, for the upcoming YB theme issue (submission are open until May 20). and: receiving a dislocated acceptance from you are here. very happy about that one.

on my own editing front, i try to figure out the next theme for BluePrintReview. the current synergetic transformations issue with its different formats and the included notes on the process was the largest and most complex one. i don't think trying to compete with that in a next issue would work. i guess i'd better go for a simple issue next. another thought i had: a revisit issue, based on the previous 27 issues. will see.

and i just saw that Dave Bonta from qarrtsiluni was travelling, too, met up with the master of window reflections: Jean Morris, and now is enjoying the joys of home in Siren songs, which end on words that could also go for my island time: "Huge success as the trip may have been, I’m glad it didn’t last any longer than it did. It’s good to be home."

sky & blog

amazing sky this morning. it almost came with a kind of underwater-feeling.

plus, a new gadget in the blog: "My Blog List". i came across it via "Perpetual Folly" - there was a post about the Orange Prize - a literary prize awarded for the best novel by a woman. the post included a link to the blog of one of the writers nominated for the Orange Award for New Writers: TaniaWrites. and that's the story how i came to my blog list.

(and typing this, i now eventually followed the "Recently Published Stories" links on her page. and found myself in the funky company of Dogzplot and Mad Hatter.)

after days and days of grey mornings, today came with a pastel sunrise.

such a different mood to start the day.

full moon and the real crisis

and finally... blue sky again. and the sun rising just when i looked up, there, beyond the large trees.

another surprise moment of today: i saw a she-devil. face red and black, clothes silvery, and 2 red devil horns peeking out of her blonde hair. she sat in a car, at the main crossing, respecting the red light.

no one noticed, or cared. it's those days here: Faschingszeit. you might meet obscure figures now everywhere, day or night: fable figures, ghosts, witches of all kinds, and well, devils of all genders.

back to snow

they announced it since so long that the idea it actually would happen seemed a bit less probable every time you heard the forecast of "new snow coming tomorrow".

now it came overnight. i guess i will go snow-jogging later.
