What else now??? Seizures!!!

Friday, November 2, 2012 at 1:40 am I was slightly awake from Emma crying and Jay was in our room because Emma's crying had waked him up.  I moved Jay over closer to Damon so that I could lean over the bed and pat Emma's back and try to get her back to sleep.  She was on the crib mattress on the floor by our bed.  Within a few moments Damon began to shake extremely!  I knew in my gut that he was having a seizure.  I flew out of the bed to turn on the lights, grabbed the phone and called my parents.  My Mom was over here in probably 2 minutes and my Dad followed shortly.  I then called 911 after hanging up with my Dad.  I knew that Damon was having a seizure and knew somewhat what to do from working in the medical field.  But I had only seen a mild seizure way back in High School.  NOTHING like this one.  Damon was shaking, foaming at the mouth and it was bloody, his lips were blueberry blue and his face was turning blue.  I knew that he needed to be on his side but all I could do was scream and cry and try to hold his jaw so that he wouldn't bit off his tongue.  And you might be thinking, weren't the kids in the room???  Yes they were and they watched all of this!  They were TERRIFIED!!!!  Emma just followed me around screaming (Who could blame her?  I was screaming & crying louder!) and Jay was sitting on the edge of the bed curled in a ball and white as a ghost and eyes so big they were about to pop out of his head!  As soon as my Mom got there, she rushed them out of the room.  The seizure lasted about 5 minutes and according to all the Physicians, he had one of the worst ones.  911 FINALLY got here after passing up our house and turning back around.  We live out in the COUNTRY!!!  When I called Damon's parents before 911 got here Damon's Dad could not understand a word that I was saying.  Heck I couldn't even understand myself.  They had to give medicine to Damon to sedate him because he was out of it.  He had no clue what was going on.  My Uncle is a Physician and thankfully lives 3 houses over and came rushing to our aid as well.  So thankful to all the family that lives just right here!!  The EMT got Damon loaded up and off to the ER.  Dad took me and we followed and Damon's Dad followed us.  We had no clue what we were in for.  Once at the ER Damon saw the Dr., had a CT and lots of lab.  Then got released because it was all clear.  What???  Exactly!!!  The ER physician told us to go see the Neurologist on Monday.  And this was Friday at like 8am.  So we had to wait till Monday?  Don't think so!  So grateful for the medical connections that we have here.  The most respected Neurologist opened his clinic hours just to see Damon.  He was only in the clinic doing test that day but was wonderful and saw Damon.  The physician said that there is no way that Damon should have been released to go home.  Not with a history of his head trauma.  Damon then got put on anti-seizure medicine and is not allowed to drive even 10 yards for 6 months!!  I am serious, 6 months!!  Ahhhh...  He is also not ever to really be alone for long amounts of time.  The Neurologist did an EEG and that came back normal.  Tomorrow we go and have an MRI done and then see the Neurologist again on Thursday.  So that will be our lives till we figure out what is going on.  I am terrified to sleep for fear that something will happen.  Most nights I find myself sitting on the laptop playing or watching a movie and watching him sleep.  At 2am his breathing pattern slows extremely down and it is scary.  I had to put my hand on his chest to make sure he was breathing for the first few times.  And my kids are finally back to sleeping as well.  I will be sure and keep updated for future events.  Oh the joys in life!  ;0)
Here are a few pics from that night...

Summer Reading

School's out for summer!!!

With school out and no regular schedule, we decided to have the kids get on a reading schedule.  We check out 4 books a week and at the end of the summer we will take them on a special trip and do some fun things.  That is if they read their books each week.  After talking to some friends about what we were thinking about doing, they decided to have their kiddos join in as well.  So now my kids look forward to going to the library and meeting their friends and getting fun books and have fun reading a few while at the library.  Here are a few pics from the first of many trips to the library for the summer.

Emma & Jasper enjoying a few good books.

Jay reading Fairly Odd Parents.  He was so excited when he found this one.

Jay and Lorianne reading Green Eggs and Ham.

The best part- going to the park outside the library after we visit the library.

Joey & Ashlen's Wedding

Damon's brother, Joey recently got married at the end of April to the beautiful Ashlen Quirante.  Here are a few pictures from the wedding.  They had a beautiful wedding and reception and we are so grateful that we were able to be part of it.  Here are some pictures from the wedding weekend.

(Who for some reason she like to call Uncle John.  We have no idea why!!)
Yep, this is the Wright that she looks like.

Family Picture
I think this has to be one of my all time favorite family pictures.
And the reason, Emma's face.  It is so her!  I will smile but not look at the camera just because you asked me too.  I am a stinker through and through.  But she is so adorable!  I just love this little family of mine!!!

Letter To President Thomas S. Monson

For Family Home Evening the other night we watched the Mormon Message from President Thomas S. Monson to the Primary children called, "Pass It On". In the video he talked about the primary children going and doing acts of serve for those in their families and wards. So after the video we talked to the children about the challenge and talked about some serve that they could do for others. We decided to start with service for Grandpa and Grandma Portie. They both serve in the Houston Temple one day a week and it makes for a long day with having to drive all the way to Houston and then be there for several hours and then drive back two hours again. Especially for Grandpa who still has a farm to care for when he gets home. So the children decided that they would go and gather the eggs for their Grandparents while they were at the Temple. We went and gathered 43 eggs that day. We left them in their house for them to find when they got home. The kids were so excited to be doing a surprise act of service for someone. Especially someone they love so much. Then like President Monson asked, we wrote him a letter about it and mailed it with some pictures. And to our surprise today we got a letter to us from President Monson's Secretary. What a great surprise!!!! We have included the letter for journal purposes but you are welcome to read it as well. If you want to watch the video from President Monson, here is the link,

Happy 50th Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Happy 50th Birthday Dr. Seuss!
Jay being in Kindergarten is so much fun! And I am loving being the room mom for his class and spending this time with him. Since it was Dr. Seuss' 50th the whole school that Jay attends decided to have a big birthday celebration. The kids got to pick out a character from a Dr. Seuss book and dress like it on Friday. Jay LOVED this! I got together with a few of the other Mom's that have kids in Jay's class that I get along with really well and we coordinated our kiddos outfits. The kids loved it. They had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss and reading a lot of his books and watching some movies too. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Emma's 3rd Birthday Party

Emma's 3rd Birthday Party.

Here are a few pictures from Emma's party. In no particular order. We had so much fun at it and are grateful for all the family and friends that helped us celebrate her birthday. It has been so much fun living so close to so much family. We are blessed that the kids get to see their Grandparents and Great-Grandma's on a weekly basis. We had a fun farm birthday this year for Emma. Compliments to the farm that we live on. My kids truly love the country life and all that it brings. We had baby lambs and baby chicks for the kids to pet and hold, horses for the kids to ride, MJ (Emma's pig) for the kids to pet, and a play ground to play on. The weather was perfect and we all had so much fun.

Emma's adorable cake and cupcakes that Damon's Aunt made. Seriously, I love them!

It's my party and I can cry if I want to...

A very upset Emma that we made her get off the horses.

Hunter & Emma just love each other so much!

Em blowing out her birthday... lighter. Yes, we are the parents that forgot the candles at the house. So we just made do with what we had on hand.

I found the designs on line and knew that I had to have them at Emma's birthday party. The party theme actually came from these cupcakes. Seriously, could they be any cuter? I love, love them!!!
