Back into the Swing of Things

Well, its time for me to come back out of the dark hole I disappeared into. I think I may have more time now to post again. I have had an interesting journey as I am now a 3 year veteran of my agency and there have been many ups and downs along the way. I will have to start sharing some of these funny and serious events again. In the mean time, stay safe out there brothers and sisters. My heart gets heavy each time I read about another fallen officer or officer injured on the job.

New Blogs Update

So today I got a wild hair up my ass and decided to browse a few new blogs. I must apologize to Officer Smith as I have followed his blog for some time now and had never added him to my favorites. I hope you all enjoy the newest blogs as I have.

Just a tip...

When coming to jail after a domestic dispute please make sure to check what your clothing reads. Example, don't be like the moron this morning that comes in with a light bulb for smoking meth and tin foil filled with vicodin wearing a t-shirt reading "Worlds Greatest Dad". I'd hate to see what the worlds worst dad looked like.

Reflection

Hello all, I am still alive and kicking here. I am currently assigned to graveyard shift which means I don't usually have the energy to think of witty or comical incidents from work.

So I recently got thinking back on how I have changed and settled into the job since I started 8 months ago. 8 months ago I was nervous to be within arms distance from any inmate and stepping into the pod felt like stepping onto their land. Now I have no problem speaking to inmates or having them close to me in tight areas and walking into the pod still feels like my turf, I've even been locked in a pod with inmates on accident. I went from low man on the pole and having the worst days off to having 4 other people below me and getting awesome days off. I have worked toward a special assignment on the booking floor and was chosen to fill the open slot.

I have to say that things have changed a lot since I first started the job. The idea of performing a strip search on someone was appalling and since has turned into something routine. The booking process which used to take me a half hour now takes all of 15 minutes provided they don't have a bag with everything including the kitchen sink (or filled with complimentary items from a hotel). I absolutely have to say without a doubt that of all the jobs I have ever had I LOVE this one the most. Every day is something new and different. The only thing I would give this up for is for a patrol car and a job on the streets.

Oleoresin Capsicum

So week five out of six of my academy is complete. I have never been in soo much pain until this week. It started with Use of Force and the electric restraint belt, then moved on to Defensive Tactics for three days. Yesterday, Friday, was OC training... I hate that stuff. I could only think of one person I would wish that on and it's a current inmate. I swear that the first officer to spray me with it WILL feel my pain after I decontaminate.

The rest of the academy has been pretty good. I really enjoyed our cell searching training. A supervisor cleared out a problem pod for us to search. I found a lighter and cottonballs during my search and was quite pleased with myself. The other cadets found some good stuff including homemade hooch and a piece of nail clipper that was getting filed down for a knife.

Shower Party!

Ok so, I can't quite figure out why we have been having such a problem with inmates not wanting to shower daily. Tonight I assisted two other officers in showering an inmate. I'm not talking about bringing gifts or throwing confetti, I'm talking about strip him naked, toss him in the shower and dump soapy water on him to make him not smell like a corn nugget hanging from Satan's anus after a day at the gym. I guess I could see how someone may take the "don't drop the soap" joke seriously but come on... If someone's going to rape you it would most likely be in prison, not jail, and if you split a cell with them your a lot more vulnerable while your sleeping (specially if you sleep on your stomach).

I have to say that over the last 2 months I have seen, heard, touched, smelt and tasted the worst things I have ever came in contact with in my life. I say tasted because I ate an inmate meal for lunch once. Lunch is two sandwiches, a bag of stale chips, and a bag with two cookies in it. The sandwiches are mustard and mayo with cheese and usually bologna made of turkey.

Still Here

I know I've announced my return and failed to continue posting. I have been quite busy. My shift will be rotating to swing shift next month and I hate the idea of it.

Swing shift is our worst shift because that's when all the bad things happen. The inmates have from 6pm to 9pm to find ways of bothering you before they are locked down for the night. Serving dinner trays will be one of the worst parts of the shift as well. I have enjoyed day shift when all I have to do is give them two sandwiches, chips and cookies.

I haven't had anything majorly funny to post on so far. The only thing I can think to comment on is, don't get arrested for stealing a Slurpee then come to the jail and mouth off if you can't defend yourself physically. We have someone in custody for stealing a Slurpee who has had his ass kicked twice in two days because he mouths off to the other inmates and when it turns physical he gets beat.
