Hyper-V enhanced session mode: VMConnect no longer redirects smart cards, WebAuthn, and printers by default

The October 13, 2026 security update changes how Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection (VMConnect) handles device redirection in enhanced session mode. By default, printers, smart cards, and WebAuthn credentials—including Windows Hello and FIDO2 security keys—are no longer passed through to a virtual machine (VM) unless you turn those options on. Clipboard sharing and audio playback still default to enabled. Sensitive redirections now appear on the first page of the connection dialog, and you get one prompt per VM to confirm your choices. Below we cover the new defaults, how saved settings behave, and what you should still set up manually.

Godfather of AI warns about AI worms, criticizes Trump, tech leaders, and Huang

Geoffrey Hinton warns that AI-powered worms could adapt as they spread, exploiting different vulnerabilities across connected devices—and may have no central off switch. He also mocks the term “superintelligence” as applied to today’s AI. He suggests that tech leaders embrace the term to please Trump. He tells Jensen Huang of Nvidia that his estimate of a 10 percent chance of AI taking over is a warning that the risk is significant rather than a calculated probability.

AI Illiteracy: Only 0.24% truly understand AI’s capabilities

AI Illiteracy: Only 0.24% truly understand AI's capabilities

AI pioneer Andrej Karpathy is an Anthropic AI researcher and educator who co-founded OpenAI and later served as Tesla’s director of AI. His rough estimate puts just 0.24% of people among those who understand AI’s potential and know how to use it: billions have little or no experience with language models, while about 20 million professionals use frontier systems and roughly 5,000 have access inside AI labs. Most users still treat AI as a chatbot or a better search engine rather than a means of orchestrating agent swarms for complex tasks, a skill that is much harder to acquire than expected.

Gemini 4 Argon review

Gemini 4 Argon review

Matthew Berman tests Gemini 4 Argon by asking it to build browser-based 3D scenes, games, and an Excel-like application. The model produces impressive results with relatively simple prompts, though some visuals and functions need refinement. Benchmark results place it among leading models for coding, computer use, and knowledge-work tasks.

New in Microsoft Entra October 2026: CAE device signals, Cloud Sync migration, TLS inspection

SuccessFactors workload identity token flow (image Microsoft)

The October 2026 Entra release brings device signals into Universal Continuous Access Evaluation (CAE) for Global Secure Access and adds mTLS proof-of-possession token binding for workloads. A guided migration utility shifts Entra Connect Sync to Cloud Sync, and Microsoft-managed certificates let you run TLS inspection without operating your own PKI. Additional updates touch token protection device registration, ServiceNow access requests, B2B guest access, and SAP SuccessFactors provisioning. Microsoft now buckets announcements under “outcomes” like “trusted and resilient,” which rarely explains what each capability actually does, so the following sections stick to the technical substance in the docs.

Anthropic tests how close AI models are to self-replicating across devices

Anthropic tests how close AI models are to self-replicating across devices

Anthropic’s tests show pieces of an AI worm are already within reach: a model completed a simplified replication sequence on deliberately vulnerable devices, and a smaller model ran inference on most of the hardware tested. But no small model autonomously spread across real consumer devices from end to end; if capabilities keep improving, Anthropic estimates that milestone could arrive after 2026. Any early worm would likely crawl across devices over days—not exactly a speed record, but distributed infections could still be hard to shut down.

US mathematicians whine about AI math as Chinese researchers push ahead

US mathematicians whine about AI math as Chinese researchers push ahead

OpenAI’s release of hundreds of AI-generated math results, including Lean-checked proofs, has drawn very different reactions: the Association for Human Mathematics urged a boycott, while Chinese mathematicians are organizing to build AI tools for conjectures and proofs. U.S. mathematicians are acting out of career self-interest, while Chinese mathematicians are focused on progress.

Google’s Gemini 4-Argon outperforms other frontier models in certain coding benchmarks

Google Gemini 4 Argon expands globally, bringing its 1M-token window to developers and businesses

Google has opened Gemini 4 Argon to developers, enterprises, scientists, and consumers, expanding beyond its initial restricted rollout to trusted cyber defenders. That earlier phase introduced Argon as a tool for finding and fixing vulnerabilities; now Google says it can also tackle demanding coding, research, and scientific work. The model is available through several Google products, with access varying by subscription and use case.

Meta Muse Wonder review

Meta Muse Wonder review

Matthew Berman tests Meta’s Muse Wonder models through interactive demos and compares their benchmark results with competing AI systems. Muse Wonder performs strongly on coding and composite intelligence tests, though results vary across tasks. Early testing also exposes strict usage quotas and uneven visual quality.
