About Contemporary R&B
Contemporary R&B mixes vocal techniques from the earlier and more traditional style of R&B (Rhythm & Blues), and the genres that derived from it (e.g. Soul and Disco), with synthesizers, more electronic-oriented drums (most often influenced by Hip Hop), and a strong leaning on influences from Jazz and Funk.
The genre first emerged in the US in the early 1980s. It started gaining massive popularity in the 1990s and reached its commercial peak in the 2000s.
