About the Microbiology Program

The Microbiology Graduate ProgramĀ at the University of Connecticut provides students with broad training in classical and modern microbiology plus exciting opportunities for state-of-the-art research leading to the Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students interested in careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries may also pursue a MSĀ degree Microbial Systems Analysis in theĀ Professional STEM Masterā€™s (PSM) program.

Research Focus

Areas of research focus includeĀ interactions within free living and host associated microbial communities, the function and characterization of host associated microbiota, and the role of horizontal gene transfer, including molecular parasites, in gene and genome evolution.
