Persistent Effort and Patience(粘り強い取組みと我慢)-1

Learning patience takes time, as does overcoming my clumsiness. I am currently putting this into practice by building the Eiffel Tower from Lego, a set that contains over 3,000 pieces. It began about two weeks ago when my wife finished repairing the Capsule Machine, a task I had been unable to complete myself. Constructing the tower was initially enjoyable, but as I have continued, my frustration has gradually grown. This is mainly due to the tower’s complex structure — great care is required to piece everything together meticulously without causing it to collapse. So, I have continued to assemble each piece, taking a deep breath and maintaining steady concentration.
That said, I am not tackling it alone. As with the Capsule Machine, this challenge would not be sustainable without my wife’s full support. Every evening, she prepares the pieces I will need for the next stage of the build and carefully points out where each one should be placed. In other words, I simply place each piece where she tells me to. Nevertheless, I often become frustrated and on the verge of losing patience due to my inability to follow her instructions properly. Whenever my patience starts to wear thin, she always reminds me to keep my cool. With her strong support, I can likely continue. In fact, I have no choice but to see it through to the end, because she refuses to let me give up halfway. For now, it will likely take at least half a year to finish.
While I was struggling with the project, I came across a news report announcing that the Sagrada Família’s main tower had finally been completed. This reminded me of visiting the grand and enigmatic unfinished church in Barcelona. I clearly remember being overwhelmed by it, knowing that construction had been ongoing for about 140 years amid countless moments of uncertainty, revision, and renewed progress by professionals. In short, I was struck by the fact that incredibly skilled specialists — architects, artisans, and builders — also required such an extraordinary amount of time to complete it.
This reflection suggests that I should take my time with the construction of the tower rather than rushing it. In other words, regardless of how long it takes, I should enjoy the building process, because taking time will teach valuable lessons such as endurance and self‑reflection.
What a remarkable coincidence that the completion of the Sagrada Família should coincide with my assembly of the Eiffel Tower.
