Fulham 1-3 Everton: Final | Incredible comeback win for the Blues!

Fulltime Thoughts - An incredible effort in the second half as Everton outworked a surprising lethargic Fulham side who still have a European berth to play for, and the Toffees come away from the capital with a famous 3-1 win.

90+11’ - The final whistle, and Everton have pulled off an incredible 3-1 comeback win away at Fulham!!

90+7’ - Traore goes down the right, his cross comes off Myko’s arm which was outstretched, and ref Darren England is not interested in a penalty. VAR checking it now. Definitely went off his arm, but was it a natural position? The ref will go view it on the screen. He takes a couple of minutes but then stands by his original decision. That should not be a penalty. Most European leagues will give that as a penalty though.

90+5’ - Iroegbunam with another delightful tackle nicks the ball off Iwobi and sets off on a counter. McNeil with the ball, and plays it into space, but neither Ndiaye nor DCL made the run.
Oooh now they’re in space again and DCL is played in on goal.. offside. Leno had saved it anyway.

90+4’ - Fulham are still throwing everything at the Blues, but Everton’s backline has been solid.

90’ - Last two subs for the Blues, and it will be Seamus Coleman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin on, with Gueye and Beto going off, big applause there too.

89’ - Iro with a brilliant sliding recovery tackle to cut out the danger in the Everton box.
There will be seven-plus minutes added on we hear.

84’ - Another change for the Blues as Alcaraz comes off to a big round of applause, and it’ll be Iroegbunam on.

82’ - A couple of crosses into the Everton box, but once again it’s been a blue shirt to it first.
Freekick to the hosts on the left edge of the box as they make a couple more subs. Ball into the box, and cleared.

77’ - The Everton fans behind the Fulham goal are BOUNCING! ‘Spirit of the Blues’ is being chanted at FULL volume from back there.
Jimenez gets behind Keane but his shot is just wide.

73’ - Ndiaye wins the ball at midfield, finds Alcaraz on the run, he feeds Beto.. GOAL!!!
Oh my goodness Beto sneaks a shot at the far post under Leno and Everton now lead 3-1!! Nothing to check by VAR here, unless they’re going to claim Leno was still traumatized from the previous incident.

68’ - McNeil runs away down the touchline from Pereira, but can’t find a fellow blue shirt in the box. Starting to get more involved, and the Blues now have a corner on the right, directly in front of the raucous away support.
McNeil inswinger incoming, GOAL!!!!! BIG MICK KEGGER HAMMER HOME A HEADER AT THE BACK POST!! Oh Paintbrush how we’ve missed you on setpieces!
VAR will be checking this because Fulham want a foul by Alcaraz on Leno, no foul. Also checking for offside, no offside. Anything else you want to check for? Prior parking tickets? An unpaid gas bill maybe? THE GOAL STANDS!

66’ - Fulham have been controlling play for the last few minutes but the Blues have been defending decently enough. Still struggling to get that out ball and subsequent possession as Ndiaye and McNeil are yet to make a mark.

63’ - Smith-Rowe comes off for Traore, another player who quite enjoys playing against the Toffees.

60’ - The away support are chanting ‘Spirit of the Blues’ as Everton are on the attack, Beto is looking for Doucs in the box but Leno cuts it out. Now Wilson has his eighth attempt at goal, a wayward header this time.
Moyes makes his first substitutions, with Harrison and Doucoure going off, and it’s McNeil and Ndiaye coming on.

59’ - Wilson really wants that goal against the Blues, his seventh attempt of the afternoon is sailed well wide.

56’ - Berge has been atrocious today with close to half a dozen giveaways, and now hauls down Doucoure who was looking to motor past him. He goes in the book, Harrison or Young to take a freekick from the edge of the final third. It will be Young, Beto can’t make proper contact and it’s cleared.

53’ - Brilliant save from Pickford! Wilson cuts behind Myko and takes a quick shot with the England #1 off the line, lobs the keeper but Pickford is equal to it and claws the ball out of the air! He does look to have done some damage to his right shoulder as he landed heavily on it.
Pickford is up and play resumes, it’s a corner that the Blues can clear.

51’ - Now Iwobi’s cutback to Sessegnon is parried away by Pickford for a corner. Only partly cleared but a foul is given for Anderson barging into Alcaraz.

48’ - Wilson late on a challenge and clatters into Myko who has to shake it off. Cross from the right is blocked for a corner, Young takes it quickly and it’s cleared for another corner on the Everton left.
This one is close to the near post and Beto gets to it first, can’t find the flick on and it’s wide. The Toffees believe they should have a corner but nothing doing.

46’ - Second half underway. Almost immediately a scoring chance for Harrison but his second shot is well-wide.
Now the Blues counter with Harrison, he finds Beto who squares but it can only come to Alcaraz whose shot is blocked.

Halftime Thoughts - Fulham took their foot off the gas after scoring once and that allowed Everton to hang around long enough for that lucky deflection to pull them level at 1-1 at the break.

45+2’ - Alcaraz finds himself in the box on the left with the ball at his feet, shooting chance and he tries to nutmeg Leno but the goalie blocks it, throw-in.
Garner takes another long one, Leno punches weakly, Doucoure controls and gives it to Myko who fires a shot.. GOAL! Big deflection off Pereira and the Blues are level at the stroke of halftime!

44’ - Former Red Wilson shapes up to shoot, holds off a couple of times before his low shot is deflected by Garner and is creeping into the low corner, but Pickford is up for it and turns it around the post.
First corner is headed back out before the Blues can clear the second one as well. Three or more minutes to be added on here.

42’ - Bassey wins the ball and starts to go up the touchline but the Blues steal the ball and win a throw-in. Long throw from Garner is headed out for a corner.
Corner makes it to Keane but his header is tame and Leno collects before any other blue shirts can get on it.

39’ - Branthwaite is sitting down again and receiving medical attention. Finally gets up and he’s good to continue for now.

37’ - Branthwaite getting up gingerly after getting trod on by Jimenez going up for a header. Just a reminder that the Toffees have no centrehalves on the bench.
Horrible giveaway by the sideline in midfield by Myko and Jimenez and Wilson charge towards goal, Wilson’s shot blocked and then Iwobi takes a pop trying to chip Pickford, wide.

35’ - Fulham pressing again as Everton lose the ball too easily. Pereira shot is way over. The Cottagers look happy to sit back and pick off the Blues now.

32’ - Long ball for Myko, all the time in the world to cross and his hopeful attempt can’t beat the first man in the box. A bit more possession for the Blues, but nothing they can do with it.

29’ - Myko wins a corner on the left now, Blues’ first of the game. Young to take, taken short, touched back to him and he overhits his cross to the back post. Wasted opportunity.

23’ - Good work from the Blues midfield winning the ball back and starting off an attack, Alcaraz finds Harrison in space but his shot is tame and Leno saves.

21’- Fulham continuing to pile down the Everton right, 53% of their attacks today have come down that side where that flank of Harrison - Young - Keane are struggling. They’re not getting much help elsewhere either.
Wilson shot flashes past the far post. He had way too much time outside the box.

18’ - And has happened so many times after we say that, Everton concede. Smith-Rowe gets a yard up on Keane and crosses to the six-yard line, Jimenez climbs over Myko and powers a header home, Pickford beaten to his right. Mismatch that, getting the striker on the left back.

17’ - Can’t string together more than two passes in the final third, but okay otherwise.

13’ - Toffees decidedly coming off second best in most 50/50 challenges here, possession only at 38%.
Good deep cross into the box from Keane, Harrison tries to head it across goal but it’s cleared before it comes to Beto.

10’ - Beto can’t control, Harrison the same and now Smith-Rowe finds Iwobi cutting in from the wing, shot straight at Pickford.

9’ - The Everton traveling support have been in full voice to start this game and can be clearly heard belting out all the greatest hits.

7’ - Branthwaite long diagonal finds Harrison, his cross is overhit and no blue shirts in the box. Now a Mykolenko cross catches Tete full in the face and the Fulham player goes down.

5’ - Wilson’s shot charged down, rebound fired at Pickford and the goalie saves.

4’ - Per the commentators Everton only arrived at the ground just over an hour before kickoff, got stuck in West London traffic.
Also, Marco Silva is up in the stands as he’s suspended following his third caution last week.

3’ - Everton long throw into the Cottagers box, ball at Branthwaite’s feet with his back to goal, he twists and turns but his eventual shot is blocked.

2’ - Melee in the Everton box, an Iwobi cross comes off Young and the hosts want a penalty. Nope, didn’t hit him on the arm.

1’ - Underway at Craven Cottage.

Sounds like it is some kind of injury for O’Brien, more details to come.

Everton - Some surprises there with Jake O’Brien missing from the squad, Iliman Ndiaye, Dwight McNeil and Nathan Patterson all on the bench while Michael Keane and Ashley Young start.

That lineup though, shows you how much work we need to do this summer.

Fulham -

Everton have just three games left this season to improve their league position from 14th to 13th at best, but should also ensure they don’t drop all the way down to 17th to maximize whatever they can get from the Premier League in terms of television revenues.

Fulham for their part would like to grab every point they can that will propel them to as high up the table as they can, because in this season who really know what spots will earn you a European berth and what won’t.

The Blues have been mostly successful against Silva in London, going unbeaten since their early 2019 loss at the Cottagers. It hasn’t been necessarily positive with back-to-back scoreless draws against Silva’s side, but Everton have given a decent account of themselves on the road.
