Beta branch 2.3.3-341 change notes
This update contains significant fixes and enhancements since the 2.3.3 release.

Major changes:
  • Improved Vulkan and Direct3D render device selection feature.
  • Worked around some graphics driver bugs on Qualcomm Snapdragon based Windows ARM64 machines.
  • Fixed a crash when audio volume is set to 0.
  • Fixed some sound editor window issues causing parameters to reset themselves.
  • Fixed a landscape editor bug causing the land to not regenerate when a flatten area is removed.
  • Fixed a possible crash in the landscape editor when a land tile is larger than the map size.
  • Fixed a Darwinian AI bug which caused them to freeze instead of flee when a Battle Cannon was pointed at them.
  • Fixed some rare AI bugs causing enemy detection to fail.
  • Added more game elements to pipeline warmup, to eliminate some framerate stuttering on first render (e.g. lasers, shockwaves).
  • Linux: Fixed possible deadlock when launching on a system which has the NVIDIA drivers installed but no NVIDIA GPUs are present.
  • Windows: Fixed an incompatibility with Windows 7 which prevented the game from launching.
  • Windows: Improved Direct3D renderer compatibility with older hardware that doesn't support newer shader model versions.
  • Windows: Improved compatibility running under Wine (including CrossOver, Whisky, Proton, etc).
  • macOS: Fixed some crashes due to bugs within MoltenVK.

Minor changes:
  • Improved sound filter performance.
  • Improved memory usage in numerous places.
  • Increased render distance for pixel effect and made distance fade more subtle.
  • Changed shape explosions to allow smaller triangles. This allows shape explosions to work for dying Triffids.
  • Improved cutscene skipping somewhat, especially for the Prologue/Demo.
  • Improved the "Visit Website" button, now shows a list of useful options.
  • Fixed some rendering bugs with the pixel effect.
  • Fixed some rendering bugs due to entity position prediction inaccuracies (e.g. on Centipedes).
  • Fixed some Ant Hill orders missing their intended targets.
  • Fixed a localization bug for some Sepulveda dialogue.
  • Fixed a localization bug in the key bindings window.
  • Fixed minor graphical glitch on Darwinians caused by level-of-detail changes.
  • Fixed some possible crashes which only occur when running under emulation (e.g. FEX, box86, and others).
  • Fixed a possible crash when loading a shape file with no color attributes. (This is a malformed shape file, but we can use a default gray color in this case.)
  • Updated ANGLE, MoltenVK, and other contributing libraries.

Known issues:
  • macOS: On MacBook Pro 14"/16" with 120Hz displays (or in fact any Mac with > 60Hz displays) there is stuttering in full screen mode. This is caused by the "Direct-to-Display" feature in Metal, which cannot be opted out of. We have implemented a partial workaround to this problem, but there is still occasional render stuttering. Players can work around this by: running the game in Windowed mode, running at a fixed 60Hz refresh rate, or by running an application that keeps a hidden always-on-top window running (such as Notchmeister). We have an open bug with Apple about this problem and will continue to look for a better solution.
  • Windows: Some applications (e.g. ReShade, Bandicam, Overwolf, RivaTuner Statistics Server, etc) may inject Vulkan layers into the game process, even if those applications are simply installed but not running. Some of these layers are known to cause occasional crashes when using the Vulkan renderer. To work around this, either uninstall those applications or use a different renderer in the Screen preferences (OpenGL or Direct3D 11).
  • Older graphics drivers may be less reliable and cause crashes. Please update your drivers from your card/chipset vendor's website.

In the future it may become more and more difficult to support Windows 7. The ANGLE libraries are built using _WIN32_WINNT=0x0A00, which means Windows 10 is the officially minimum supported Windows version. But with some (for now) small workarounds, it's possible to retain Windows 7 compatibility. In the future, if ANGLE is failing to load on a Windows 7 machine, you can try deleting the libGLESv2.dll and libEGL.dll, which will force the game to only use native OpenGL (minimum version is 3.3).

Hi! I've updated the changelog to reflect the current contents of the Beta branch.
Testing .714, the armor doesn't show the flag anymore when right click on destination.
It doesn't have the command flag on top either.
Also Armor can't go over deep water anymore.

Nice catch on the flag. This is now fixed in the beta branch (build 743 and later).

I can't reproduce the problem with the Armour not going over deep water though. Can you share details?

I think I've narrowed the "problem". If I click on water the armour doesn't move at all. I have to click on a flat land triangle to make it move.
It seem it only get move command if a flat or almost flat land triangle is clicked as a destination.
Water, steep mountain = no move (I can't put the flag).
Flat or slight oblique land = I can put a flag and have the armour go there.

You can't place turrets in water or on steep mountains, no. That's always been the case. But you can tell them to move to those locations (left click).

Thank you for the kind comments!
Thanks so much for continuing dev support of this wonderful game. I revisit it frequently. Can you tell us of new mods or new content will be forthcoming?
Never happened before, but from the last update I experience motion sickness.
It could be me, or a change in the engine, and thought it would was worth mentioning.
I didn't change the settings, 1920x1080@60Hz, vsync, 60 fps, vulkan. All maxed out.
Win 11, GTX 970 latest driver.

You might consider changing the FOV option in Graphics Settings. I personally don't have any experience with motion sickness in games, but I know others have reported that increasing the FOV helps with that.
ETA for the beta branch merge?
Gotta be honest--I _welcomed_ the red Darwinians attacking the spam cubes. Definitely helped.
