Bruce Dubbs has announced the release of Linux From Scratch (LFS) 7.3, a book of instructions on how to build a base Linux system from scratch from an existing Linux system or a live CD: "The Linux From Scratch community is pleased to announce the release of LFS Version 7.3. It is a major release with toolchain updates to Binutils 2.23.1, glibc 2.17 and GCC 4.7.2. In total, 31 packages were updated from LFS 7.2 and changes to bootscripts and text have been made throughout the book." Other major updates in this release include Linux kernel 3.8.1, Coreutils 8.21, kmod 12, Perl 5.16.2, TCL 8.6.0, Texinfo 5.0 and udev 197 (extracted from systemd 197). The LFS 7.3 book is available either as an online resource or as a downloadable in HTML file (no PDF format this time). | Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a project that provides you with the steps necessary to build your own custom Linux system. There are a lot of reasons why somebody would want to install an LFS system. The question most people raise is "why go through all the hassle of manually installing a Linux system from scratch when you can just download an existing distribution like Debian or Redhat". That is a valid question which I hope to answer for you. The most important reason for LFS's existence is teaching people how a Linux system works internally. Building an LFS system teaches you about all that makes Linux tick, how things work together, and depend on each other. And most importantly, how to customize it to your own taste and needs.

Distribution Release: Linux From Scratch 13.1 |

The Linux From Scratch (LFS) project has announced the release of Linux From Scratch 13.1, a document which will assist people in building their own distribution from source code. This version of LFS includes Linux kernel 7.1.8, glibc 2.44 and GCC 16.2.0. "The Linux From Scratch community announces the release of LFS Version 13.1. Major changes include toolchain updates to Binutils 2.47, GCC 16.2.0 and glibc 2.44. In total, 46 packages were updated or added since the last release. Changes to the text have also been made throughout the book. The Linux kernel has also been updated to version 7.1.8. Packages that have security updates include attr, acl, expat, glibc, Linux kernel, Python, systemd, util-linux, vim and zlib. See the Security Advisories page for details. Bruce Dubbs has announced the release of Linux From Scratch (LFS), version 13.0. The new version includes several package updates, including the Linux kernel, which is now at version 6.18.10. "The Linux From Scratch community is pleased to announce the release of LFS Version 13.0 (systemd) and BLFS Version 13.0 (systemd). This release is a major update to both LFS and BLFS. The LFS release includes updates to Binutils 2.46 and glibc 2.42. In total, 36 packages were updated since the last release and extensive updates to the text have been made throughout the book to improve readability. The Linux kernel has also been updated to version 6.18.10. Overall there have been over 100 commits to LFS since the previous stable version of the book. Packages that have security updates include: glibc, Coreutils, expat, Perl, Python, systemd, xz and vim."
