The 4MLinux project has announced a new release of the independent Linux distribution. The latest release, 4MLinux 13.0, ships with the GNU Compiler Collection 5 and offers miscellaneous desktop improvements. "The status of the 4MLinux 13.0 series has been changed to S. Major changes in the core of the system, which now uses GNU Compiler Collection 5.1.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture. Additionally, I am very happy to announce that my long work on improving the 4MLinux Desktop has been finished. 4MLinux users can now enjoy the result of this work: a unique, highly customized mixture of JWM (Joe's Window Manager), Window Maker and PCManFM." Distribution Release: 4Mlinux 52.0 |

The 4MLinux minimal distribution has published a new release, version 52.0. The new version includes several key package updates, simplified wireless network configuration, better support for legacy graphics cards, and a new game. The release announcement states: "The status of the 4MLinux 52.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 26.2.5 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.8, GIMP 3.2.4, Gnumeric 1.12.61), surf the Internet with Firefox 153.0 or Chrome 151.0 and send emails via Thunderbird 153.0. Enjoy your music collection with Audacious 4.6.1, watch your favorite videos with mpv 0.41.0 or VLC 3.0.23, and play games powered by Mesa 26.0.3. You can also set up a very lightweight HTTP/FTP server (based on BusyBox 1.37.0). PHP 8.5.4, Perl 5.42.1, Python 3.14.3 and Ruby 3.4.8 are also available. As always, the new major release has some new features, including simplified Wi-Fi configuration and improved support for legacy graphics cards. Rocks'n'Diamonds (a classic platform game), Elvis (an old vi clone), PDF Tricks (a Ghostscript GUI for handling PDF images) are available as downloadable extensions, while ksh (KornShell) and audioconvert (a command-line utility) are included out of the box. Support for Ultra HDR images (via libultrahdr and ImageMagick) has also been added. And finally, the Linux kernel in 4MLinux has been upgraded to its latest LTS version, i.e. 6.18." The 4MLinux project has published an update for its lightweight distribution. 4MLinux 51.0 includes a few key changes, including new media playing options. "The status of the 4MLinux 51.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 26.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.7, GIMP 3.0.8, Gnumeric 1.12.60), surf the Internet with Firefox 149.0 and Chrome 146.0, and send emails via Thunderbird 140.9. ... As always, the new major release introduces several new features, including improved support for ZX Spectrum and Atari music via the AY/YM emulation library. Midori (web browser) and cmus (ncurses-based music player) have been added as downloadable extensions. 4MLinux now features a comprehensive suite of drivers: Mesa 25.3.1 (with VAAPI and Vulkan for modern GPUs), Mesa 21.3.9 (providing VAAPI and VDPAU for legacy adapters), Intel VAAPI (both i965 and iHD), and the latest firmware for AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA accelerators. Additionally, the system now intelligently identifies your hardware and applies the optimal settings for your machine." Distribution Release: 4MLinux 50.0 |

The 4MLinux project has announced a new release of the minimal distribution. 4MLinux 50.0 includes package updates, new games and new file managers. "As always, the new major release has some new features. Support for webcam devices has been greatly improved (via Zbar and V4L2 Viewer). Old (yet still quite useful) EmelFM2 file manager as well as uHexen2 (port of Raven Software's Hexen II source) have been added. GPAC (multimedia framework) is now available as a downloadable extension. You can find BlockOut II (3D tetris game) and PySol (a huge collection of solitaire card games) as parts of the 4MLinux Game Pack. And finally, hundreds of lines of code have been changed to ensure that all the 4MLinux build scripts do their job. And yes, 4MLinux is now fully able to reproduce itself from sources." 4MLinux, an independently-developed mini distribution with JWM as the preferred window manager, has been updated to version 49.0. The new release brings a large number of updates, including X.Org Server 21.1.16, JWM 2.4.6, GTK 4.18.5, ALSA 1.2.14, Tor 0.4.8.16, PCManFM 1.4.0, OpenSSH 10.0p1 with OpenSSL 3.5.0, mpv 0.40.0 and Mesa 25.1.0. The Wayland display server now appears on the list of add-ons for the very first time, and so is version 6 of the Qt library. "The status of the 4MLinux 49.0 series has been changed to STABLE. As always, the new major release has some new features. 4MLinux can now be installed on Bcachefs partitions, but only in UEFI mode. This release ships with much improved support for mobile devices, via Bluetooth and PTP/MTP protocols. Stella (Atari 2600 VCS emulator) and Brutal Chess have been added to the 4MLinux GamePack collection. Aqualung (music player), Googles (music manager), QWinFF (media converter), Fastfetch (system monitor) are now included out of the box. GIMP4, gnuplot (plots generator), ReZound (audio editor) are available as downloadable extensions. And finally, ready-to-install Intel VAPPI drivers can be found on the 4MLinux live image."
