Teddy Bear Park

Sometimes (all the time) it stinks when Tom works around or even on Holidays. It leaves the boys and I to have guilty fun by ourselves while Daddy is away. But sometimes Tom's long hours almost seem worth it when he has a week off in mid September. It's so nice to have Tom all to ourselves for awhile. Wednesday and Thursday Tom watched one or both of the boys while I was here or there, at work, or out with one of the boys. Today was Fun Friday and we finally went to Stillwater. I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit. This sweet little town is just the kind of quaint place that I love. We started the morning at the most endearing place: Teddy Bear Park . SO CUTE! The perfect place for littles. The park is adorable, small, kept both boys entertained with age appropriate playgrounds, and is completely fenced in. I guess I'm a full fledged nerdy mom seeing that I have specific park requirements and preferences. After the park we had lunch at Leo's ...

The Last Days of Summer

We haven't had much going on this week which has been nice. Mostly we've stayed in where it's cool and even though it doesn't really matter for us since Aiden will be going to school at home, I figured it was as good a time as any to get hair cuts, vaccinations (which were TERRIBLE!), new tennis shoes, and do some Fall Clothes Shopping. Today my plan was to go to the Splash Pad since it might be our last chance before they close over Labor Day. For whatever reason my boys would choose the park hands down over the splash pad anyday....even 95 degrees in the shade days. I originally chose a splash pad with no park, but we ended up here instead mostly because I realized it was 2 miles from our house instead of a 25 minute drive. For the record, I would choose the splash pad over the park anyday...ESPECIALLY on 95 degrees in the shade kind of days. So we played at the park in the heat. I made them (and myself) get wet every now and again to cool off. The summary ...

Sage's First Hair Cut

It seems like just yesterday I was writing Aiden's First Haircut Story . Yet here I am with little boy number two who had his first haircut today. I hadn't planned on cutting Sage's hair because I personally thought it was cute, but Tom said it was high time. I trimmed Sage's bangs a little but then he just looked like a girl in need of a hair bow, so we went to Sport Clips this morning. I think Sage is going to have the kind of hair that looks good a little longer. I like to refer to it as Hockey Hair. Once it gets a little thicker and a tad longer he'll be my boy with a full head of hair, and Aiden will probably wear his Clean Cut like his Daddy.  At least that's how I imagine their hair. I'm sure when they are teenagers my opinion will count for little. I thought trying to get Sage to sit still would be awful, but Sage sat stone cold still during the entire cut. He didn't even make any facial expressions.  I guess maybe he was just taking it all in....

Silly Sage!

Thought I'd post a couple Grandparent video's of my sweet baby Sagey. 20130729(170232) from Jenny on Vimeo . Prior to the filming the video below, Sage had claimed the ihome I had sitting in a pile of things to donate. He drug it over to the lap top and was trying to connect the cords from the ihome to the laptop. I think he's going to be my "I need to know how things work" kid. He will not leave stuff alone and he even somehow mangaged to climb up on the computer desk and use the mouse to play his favorite song on Spotify. He is going to be like his Daddy in some ways. Cords and buttons fascinate him. Although, Sage has the patience to sit and figure things out. Maybe he'll be an engineer someday. All that to say, this video was intended to be Sage showing off his new word that is just adorable. He yells, "Yay!" when he's happy. However, this video turned into kind of a heart breaker. Grandmommy and Grandpa, if this video doesn't con...

The Good Ol' Days

The boys are up at the crack of dawn and usually fed and dressed by eight o'clock. We spend the morning reading books, playing and getting a start on the day's laundry and tasks. I hear the back door open and shut a million times and the boys run in and out of the house tracking in as much grass as possible. Aiden has worn his adventure vest for three weeks straight taking it off only to sleep and sometimes not even then. He found some rocks in the yard and is convinced they fell from the moon. Sage totes his puppy everywhere, LOVES to mow the lawn with his mower and will melt your heart with his sweet, sweet little self. He isn't talking much but will loudly yell "GOAL!" during the family soccer game in the evening. I participated a little bit tonight and my Soccer talent matches Aiden's. The best time of the day is when Daddy comes home. We all wait for it and run to meet him at the door. Dinner with all of us at the table happens every night and you can be...

Sage at almost 20 months

Every parent thinks their child is a genius. My thoughts about Sage are no exception. His expressive language is still waiting to emerge, but he has absolutely no problem communicating exactly what he's thinking. And he'll tell you and entire story by babbling and you'll understand most of what he was trying to say. He understands exactly what I say, knows how to do many, many things and keeps up with Aiden quite well. It certainly is apparent how strong a role the social learning theory has when you watch your second child. Sage learns so much just by watching Aiden. I'm curious to see how Sage's interests grow. Right now he is my thinker and my child who loves to figure out how to do things. He loves to match blocks to their right shape in a container, do puzzles, put marker caps on and off, build towers with blocks or legos, and the list goes on. He is doing really, really well at potty learning and we'd have all our bases covered if he would actually sleep t...

Bubbles!

My sweet baby Sagey. He knows exactly what you say to him, but has just a handful or two of things he says which are mostly animal sounds. I think his use of language is going to explode one of these days. He is trying more and more to say things. He has such a sweet little way of communicating that I almost don't want him to talk. I'm soaking in these baby moments because he'll soon be leaving his baby ways in the dust and go full speed ahead toward being a big boy like Aiden. Sage is knocking on the door of turning 18 months old, which is hard to believe. Around here he is certainly thought of as the "baby" of the family and he captures all our hearts. Sage loves bubbles, but mostly he loves to dump them so he gets the cheap bubbles right now. :) Watch close and you can see him try to blow.  20130516(140236) from Jenny on Vimeo .

Onto Bigger and Better Things

It's so sad that my blog has been empty for several days and the only material I have to share is Sage's bout with the stomach flu. Since Friday night this is the first day of improvement and it was met with welcome arms! Sick little babies are just so pathetic it's almost cute yet heartbreaking at the same time. The whole business started Friday night and today was the first day of substantial improvement. Whew! I hate it when my kids are sick. I'm a huge worrier. I get stressed out and I'll admit, I selfishly get frustrated because dealing with stomach upset and consequently mountains of laundry was not how I planned to spend the whole weekend. Obviously God used this situation to reveal yet more of my flaws. It's pretty silly to get so put-out by the stomach flu when God sacrificed his Son, don't ya think? All is well that ends well and I'm thankful for modern medicine. We did end up at the Emergency Room at Children's Hospital on Sunday. Sage...
