Silveyville Farms

We made our annual trip to Silveyville Farms, our favorite Christmas Tree farm in the area. It's as close as I can come to re-living my childhood on the Seeker Christmas Tree lot.

Each year we measure the kids and sure enough they are growing!

It turned out to be a rainy day so it we had a fun time playing in the covered areas on the slides and hay trampoline.

Daddy teaching the kids how to scale hay stacks.
The rain slowed down a bit so we could catch a ride on Santa's sleigh.

The kids almost caught up to Rudolph they were going so fast on the reindeer.

The Silveyville family does a wonderful job making the farm a special place. Our favorite spot is the life sized nativity where we always stop to talk about the Christmas story with the children. Nothing beats the smell of pine, a big open fire, popcorn and the sound of saws!

Roll With It Sunday

Do you ever have days when you just go with it?

Before church Bailey had a grand vision for her hair and the boys were being fussy about getting dressed. I sent Parker and Fletcher off to put their shoes on and didn't supervise the task. The boys came back sportin' a very "European" look. It was one of those days when just getting five bodies into the car and to church on time was an event in and of itself so we decided to roll with it.

I'm trying to loosen up with things so European short pants Sunday was great practice for me!

Jaime Couch and I hosted the Mother's Club Christmas party for all the kiddos in the neighborhood. It was a fun morning with lots for the kids to do.

There was face painting...

Pull Overs & Flip Overs

We're learning new things every week at gymnastics. Some taught and some we discover how to do on our own. Can I just say again that we LOVE our gym!!!!

Daddy's Barber Shop

We wondered how Fletcher's hair would look a little longer and we discovered that it just gets crazier. He has Grandpa J's wiry hair with Daddy's cowlicks and longer hair only accentuates the two.

Daddy has proven himself to be an excellent barber so the boys hoped in the shower and Daddy went to work.

Parker's turn in the chair

The finished project - don't they look SO handsome?!

Preschool: Germany #2

In our second week learning about Germany we talked about German Christmas traditions that we have adopted such as gingerbread, the Christmas tree, Christmas carols, the Advent calendar, etc... However, the highlight was interviewing Uncle Matt who lives in Germany!

Ms. Allison's brother is a professional volleyball player who has lived in Germany for several years. He counted and spoke to the kids in German and was gracious to answer all our questions about the weather, sports, activities and various other topics. Out of everything the children learned the big take away for the Kapic kids was that on the Audubon there is NO speed limit!
The kids love to bake so we celebrated a German tradition of making gingerbread cookies.
As you can see Fletcher LOVED the sprinkles!
For our craft the following week we made ornaments using marbles and paint. They turned out to be so beautiful!

Bum Jumps

Parker invented a new jump called the "Bum Bum." He counts to 15 in Spanish then launches himself onto Bailey's mattress and lands straight on his bum.

And, this friends is why we're in gymnastics!

Mold Disaster

We've experienced a chain of events that have created an extra headache at an already busy time...
First, after too many jumps Bailey's bed finally collapsed. Funny how Parker's is the last standing - he will jump on everyone else's bed but is fiercely protective of his own!

While in the hunt for a new bed for Bailey we moved her mattress to the floor. What I didn't know at the time was that I happened to set it down on top of either a remnant of food or a damp milk spot and the results weren't pretty.

One Tuesday morning I was hurrying to get us out the door for BSF when all craziness broke loose. Missy was having an epic tantrum over what I can't remember and since she loves her bed I decided to take that away as a punishment. While working out her tantrum in the guest room I went to move the bed only to find a huge spot of nasty black mold under the mattress. I sponged it with soap and water and then tried to bleach the spot all the while checking in on Bailey until we could reconcile. While all this is going on I'm looking at the clock tick by and finally emailed my Bible Study leader to let her know that most definitely we would not be on time.
I moved some furniture and peeled back the rug to help it dry and got out the door. I did end up making it to my group just as the last question was asked!

Fast forward a few days and the carpet had yet to fully dry. Danny decided it needed to come out in order to completely recover. So, we moved the furniture around until we could slide the carpet all the way to the garage. By the way, carpet is HEAVY!

There were all sorts of treasures that awaited us under the beds of our children. Here is a sampling of what was under one bed which came to rest in the office for several days...

We ended up decided to have the carpet professionally cleaned which meant that we needed to haul it back into the room. However, because we had to get the carpet and the pad perfectly centered ALL the furniture had to come out. The kids were camped in the guest room - they could barely move!
The bummer was that the carpet took forever to dry (advice: don't get carpets cleaned during a frigid week in December). The room did prove to be a great spot for indoor gymnastics.
We finally moved back in which was a project in and of itself the night before getting everything all ready for Christmas.

FlapJack 5K

We've very excited to start Kindergarten next year at Caleb Greenwood, our neighborhood school. To show our support (and to get a little Saturday morning exercise) Danny ran in the FlapJack 5k to help raise money for the school.

Our plan was to have the kids and I ride alongside Daddy cheering him on and keeping him company while he ran. However, as with the best laid plans things went awry.  In our rush to leave the house and get to the starting line I forgot to do a shoe check to make sure everyone was wearing proper footwear.

Unfortunately right before mile one Parker's foot popped out of his Croc and he nicked his ankle on his bike pedal. Ouch. I pulled him over to the sidewalk and tried to comfort while Bailey, Daddy and Fletcher sped on ahead. We finally caught up with Daddy and decided the best course of action was for us to make a pit-stop at home (fortunately only two blocks away) and then try to meet up with Daddy before the finish line. What happened next revealed something about Fletcher...

He was absolutely devastated to not be able to continue the race with Daddy. It was a Catch 22 situation because Fletcher desperately wanted to continue but there was no way Parker could go another two miles. I needed to be able to ride alongside in case of another issue so what to do? I ended up taking us home and Fletcher was inconsolable. He kept explaining that he needed to go along "that way" (pointing to the runners) and not cut back up to the school like I was planning. I tried to tell him that we were taking a short cut so that we could catch up with Daddy but that only made him more upset. I finally realized the root of the problem... he thought we were cheating by not completing the entire course as laid out for all the runners. Oh, our little rule follower! He wanted to go the way we were supposed to go and not deviate from that course.

Once I picked up on what was causing so much angst I could explain our strategy a bit better. We got Parker fixed up and were on our way again although there were still quite a few tears. It wasn't until we saw Daddy coming around the corner (THANK YOU GOD for orchestrating the perfect timing) that everyone perked up. The cheering from the Sac State sorority girls helped too!

We were able to ride with Daddy across the finish line and the kids were beside themselves when they received medals.

Next year we'll either all be running... or wearing tennis shoes!

Daily Tidbits

Some daily tidbits...

After church one Sunday this fall we took over Taco Bell with the George family. Sally wanted to take a picture to send to the franchisee and this is the one that made the cut. There were several of the kids going wild with the high chairs doing races but we thought it best not to send those!

We have the privilege of having Colton Lynn come to play on Thursdays (while his Mommy is on bed rest). Last week he helped us make pancakes. He was in charge of the baking soda and did a great job scooping his teaspoon in the bowl.

We're on the "Rent-a-Dog" program. Whenever Grandma Lindy and Boppa go out of town Rosie comes to stay with us. This is a great arrangement because as you can see the kids enjoy making Rosie feel at home. This time we did discover that Rosie does not like to wear reindeer antlers.

We've graduated to the high beam at gymnastics

Playdough morning during Friday... errr... now Thursday playgroup (still getting used to our new day after four years of Fridays!)
I took this video of Parker zooming along on a bike ride. He was cracking me up with his funny face and little legs peddling as fast as they could go!
