International Interactions - Call for Proposals

The Publications Committee of the International Studies Association (ISA) and the Executive Committee will make a recommendation to the ISA Governing Council regarding the assignment of editorial duties for International Interactions (II) at the 2027 annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The individual or team selected to serve as editor(s) of International Interactions will hold that position for the five-year term January 1, 2028 – December 31, 2032. There will also be some transitional duties during late 2027.

The lead editor(s) should hold secure positions (typically tenured rank or the equivalent) at an academic institution and receive a measure of support from their home institution for their editorial tasks. II’s subvention from ISA for expenses related to running the journal is $40,000 per year. Guidelines for preparing a proposal, framing a budget, and frequently asked questions can be found on the Editorial Team Proposal Guidelines and Instructions page.

Before putting together a proposal, it is highly recommended that you review the aims of the manuscript and familiarize yourself with the journal. You can find out more at https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/gini20.

The proposal should include a statement of the editorial teams’ vision for the management and improvement of the journal, a statement about what role different members of the editorial team will play, a description of resources to be provided by the editors’ universities, a budget, CVs for the proposed editor(s), and letters of support from relevant authorities at editorial teams’ universities confirming their commitment to providing resources.

The Publications Committee will review all proposals meeting essential criteria. The committee will begin reviewing proposals on October 15, 2026. Applications received by that date will receive the fullest consideration. The Publications Committee must forward its recommendations to the ISA Executive Committee by December 1, 2026.

Questions about the process of selecting the editor(s), or the editorial duties involved, may be addressed to the Chair of the Publication Committee, Brian Lai at publications@isanet.org or brian-lai@uiowa.edu. Applications from individuals or editorial teams will be considered. Applications should be submitted through email to publications@isanet.org, with all materials combined into a single, bookmarked PDF document. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. ISA is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
