After years of requests, comments, mentions, and the occasional all-caps plea, Dark Mode has arrived. So has Light Mode. The Verge now follows your system preferences across the site, or you can switch anytime from the menu.

Signed-in commenting users can now keep track of replies and recs through the new notifications bell in the header. Click through to jump back into conversations. The goal is simple: help you get back to the discussions you care about without having to hunt through comment threads.

We’re thinking about giving Verge merch a refresh. Not just “put a logo on a hoodie” merch (though a little of that too), but things you’d genuinely use, wear, or proudly confuse strangers with. Our marketing and product teams want your input, including ideas that could inform future store drops or user research thank yous.

It’s been a minute since our last release notes. Not because nothing was happening. Quite the opposite. We’ve been a little busy rethinking a pretty big part of the site.

We’ve been keeping an eye on feedback across comments and other corners of the internet, but if you want to tell us something directly like a bug, a request, a “have you considered…” — you can holler at us here.
Hi Verge humans - quick update. It’s been a minute since our last post, but rest assured, our human, and the whole Verge Product team, have been hard at work on some very exciting new features. That said, a recent incident involving a full water bottle, a brief unsupervised moment, and an unnamed curious kitty did result in a dramatic spill across the work laptop. We found it uninteresting; our human did not. Progress continues (now with more fan-drying), and all the fun, cool things are still very much on the way.
PSA: don’t leave open drinks near laptops unsupervised or you may experience keyboard hydration. Our human says she’s learned her lesson. We have not.

I’m Ryan, longtime designer at The Verge and Vox Media. You may see more in the coming weeks as we roll out new site changes. But for now, perhaps you can help me with some anecdotal research! If you care to sound off in the comments, I have two questions:
If you’re seeing this post, is it because you’ve either A) explicitly chosen to follow these product updates, B) because you’re lost on the internet, or C) something else? That is to say: how did you get here, reader?
And disregardless of the path you took today, I’m curious to know: what’s your earliest memory of The Verge? When did you first encounter the brand, on what platform?
You might notice Quick Posts looking a little bit different. We said goodbye to the metaballs (meatballs as we affectionately know them here at The Verge) and shuffled a few things around as a small step toward what’s coming next. Stay tuned!
