19 Months

Another month has passed and Miles is now 19 months.

A couple weeks ago, Miles decided to start eating, which was nice. He finally will eat cereal now!!! That was a huge welcome. He actually eats Chex with milk in it for breakfast and will sometimes eat oatmeal. He also loves broccoli (he'd eat that for every meal), noodles, rice, string cheese, pretzels, carrot sticks, and grapes.

Miles is actually really good at playing by himself, he just doesn't want to. He discovered the marble run about a week ago and if I set it up for him, it entertains him for about half hour, unless he breaks it apart, which happens quite often now. He still loves balls. Any ball will do, but basketballs are his favorite.
Miles still loves to be outside. He helps Daddy with his boat and other projects. He likes to dig in the garden, play with his brothers, and find opportunities to get all wet. Stomping in puddles is especially fun.
Miles is extremely good at making messes. I turn my back for 5 seconds and the house has been turned upside down. Case in point: this morning Miles woke up pretty early since he's getting 4 new teeth. He wanted to play downstairs with his brothers, so we let him play while we got ourselves up. I came downstairs to make everyone breakfast and found Miles sitting in the middle of an entire box of Kix dumped all over the floor (and some how got the whipped cream out of the fridge?). I guess he figured he'd make his own ball pit. He was spreading the Kix all over and was pretty happy about it. I looked at him and said, "Miles. Why?" I then was distracted by Jett asking me to fix something, so while I attended to that, Miles walked up to me and again I said, "Why?" He pointed to the mess of Kix and jabbered on and repeated the word "ball". He really likes balls. So then he grabbed the broom and proceeded to push the Kix every which way. I ended up vacuuming it all up.
And then in the afternoon, Miles found a cup filled with Cheerios that Cruise had left out. I followed a trail of Cheerios to the front door where I found Miles just sitting there, eating Cheerios. It was a very productive day for him.
Miles also talks a lot. He mostly babbles, but he can say cheese, ball, basketball, balloon, bottle, Dad, shoes, outside, all done, uh-huh, he signs "more" and shakes his head for "no".

He LOVES nursery. A little too much. I went to get him this past Sunday and I found him laying on the shoulder of the brother nursery worker. I went to hold him and immediately he clung to the brother and whined. Well that was embarrassing. He was not happy about leaving.

Some other things about Miles is that he loves reading books, his favorite is one with a picture of balloons on it, speaking of which, he also loves balloons. He eats crayons and you can always tell what color he ate by changing his poopy diaper the next day. He also enjoys playing with trains and cars, but would take a ball over a car any day.
I never got him in to see the doctor for his 18 month check up because they were booked out an entire month, so here are his 19 months stats:

Weight: 27.25 lbs (82nd percentile)
Length: 32.75 (49th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19.5 (93rd percentile)

And there you have it!

Zoo Day!

On Friday we decided to play hooky and visit the zoo. We excused Cruise and Jett from school, which concerned Cruise: "What?! But that's illegal! We could go to jail!" But we explained that it's only illegal if you don't get permission from your parents. So he finally calmed down about that.

Can I just say, the zoo is in an incredibly inconvenient location? It took us and hour and a half to get there! But luckily, I was pleasantly surprised because the zoo has improved quite a bit and added a lot more! It was fun to see some new things and the boys had a blast!

We started out looking at the zebras and giraffes.
The lions were pretty cool to look at.
But my favorite were the primates!
I also decided that next time I get baby hungry, we'll be adopting an orangutan. This newborn was ADORABLE! I could've sat there and watched all day.
The elephants were up next!
And the lazy rhinos.
The whole day Cruise was the official Run-Aheader, Jett was The Map Guy, and Miles did manual labor by pushing the stroller instead of sitting in it.

Okay, he sat in it a couple times.
Then we took a little snack break and the boys got to play on the slide...I also ended up going down the slide once, but forgot to take my phone and chapstick out of my back pocket which made for some unfortunate hynie bruising.
Dave found a boat!...but was sad to find it was just decorative.
We then visited the Bald Eagle exhibit where the eagles had an uncanny resemblance to the boys...and they weren't bald either.
Next up: otters! I always think of them to be more like swimming Weiner dogs.
Other than the baby orangutan, the next exhibit was my favorite! And the boys thought it was pretty fantastic as well: sea lions and seals!
Next were the bears: polar and grizzly. They seemed to be Miles' favorite.
Miles wasn't too happy about leaving the bears. Next were the cats.
The cats all acted like...giant cats. That tiger looks fun to snuggle, but I don't think he'd like to snuggle me.

From there, you walk on a long road that loops around back to the primate area. On the road, we got to see all sorts of random animals from owls to wolves to llamas.
Then we finally made it to the reptiles and other small animals. I secretly wanted to jump the fence and take a ride on this tortoise.
By this time, Miles had had enough. He had completely missed his nap, he was hungry, and probably bored. So I pulled out the snacks and we made our way to the train.
After the train, we stood around for a few minutes trying to decide what we were going to do for dinner. By this time it was rush hour and we didn't feel like sitting down in a restaurant with Mr. Fussy Pants making a scene. Dave ended up taking him back to the car with a bottle and I let the boys pick something small from the gift shop.
We actually ended up taking Foothill Drive to the 1-215, where we ended up in Cottonwood Heights and got the boys Wendy's. By this time poor Miles had finally fallen asleep. From there, we took the 1-215 to Redwood Road which we took all the way home, stopping once for a potty break. It took us 2 hours to get home. Yikes! And...we probably won't go for another 4 years, which seems to be the trend.

And that was our zoo day!
