So long 2006, How did we do this year?

One of the important things about goal setting is to follow-up. We wanted to let you guys know how we did this year. For the original post go to our Jan '06 archives.

1) Leave Utah - DONE, we have left the mountains for the great state of Indiana
2) Convince Katrina to get a job (one of Steve's goals, Katrina loves not having a job) - DONE
3) Sell the Prelude (this is Katrina's...Steve loves his car :) - DONE, it was a very sad day
4) Visit 5 States that we have not been to together - Colorado, Nebraska, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, and North Carolina
5) Don't cause widespread destruction and flooding to the Gulf Coast - DONE
6) Get Cold Stone ice-cream at least once a week - WE FAILED MISERABLY, I DON'T EVEN THINK WE GOT IT ONCE A MONTH
7) Get rid of Steve's gas and bathroom problems (again one of Katrina's issues, Steven loves this aspect of his body) - SADLY THIS IS STILL HERE AND IT HAS EVEN BEEN PASSED IT ON TO OUR KID
8) Go the year without having to buy a new blowdryer (Katrina has had two break this year) - DONE
9) Move into a bigger place (no more one bedroom apartments) - HELLO INDIANA
10) Never go to bed mad.......j/k (we MUST go to bed mad because the only reason we are fighting is because we are over tired!) - This was a pretty good year for us, I would give us a passing grade for this.

Our 2007 resolutions are still being formed. We have a long drive back to Reno to figure them out and will try to post them later this week.

Our Best Christmas Present

Having a baby around the holiday's guarantees that someone will buy a Holiday outfit for him. We were so lucky to get a plethora of such outfits.
Here is a look:

Merry Christmas Eve

The Lund family

Chandler looking so cute in his Christmas outfit. We should have gotten a size bigger on his sweater vest because it barely fits him. Guess we didn't know we were going to have such a healthy boy!

Steve, Chandler, and Katrina

Chandler getting shoved into his car seat. We think we already need to move his straps up a notch because they are getting a little tight.

Happy Birthday Fisher

One of the things that we have come to enjoy about Fisher are his legendary faces. Here are a few we took yesterday of him.

Happy Birthday. He is getting so big and it is fun to watch him run around the house here in Reno.

Cute Pictures

So Steve's Dad has a really cool camera that takes way better pictures than our camera. Here are some pictures that we have gotten while Chandler has been happy. We are going to take tons while we are here so be ready for lots of pictures.

Some more pictures of our little bear............

BYU is back!!

We had a safe flight to Reno and Chandler was really good the whole day. He slept most of the time and when he wasn't sleeping he was just happy to be held. When we got to Reno, Steve had to run inside and start recording the Vegas bowl so we could watch it once we got settled down.

Chandler sporting his BYU shirt.
Dad with his Son ready to watch the game.
The game was a great game to watch. BYU won 38-8 and it wasn't even that close. It is a bummer that they are good now that we are in Indiana relegated to watching the replays on BYU-TV.

First Time To Church

So Chandler went to church for the first time on Sunday. We were so worried that he would start screaming or get really fussy. He ate right before we left and sort of fell asleep in the car but when we got to church he was kind of awake. We just left him in he car seat with hopes he would fall into a deep sleep. Luckily he slept the whole 3 hours and didn't even cry. There were times he would start moving and scrunch up his face and turn beet red and we thought he was going to explode but then he just settled back down.
He was pretty mad by the time we got home because he was so hungry. Here he is after eating.
Now he is happy and relaxing with his tie off, pants off, and shirt un-buttoned (with spit-up all down his neck and collar).
Pretty soon we won't be able to change him in his changing table.

3 WEEKS OLD

3 Days old

3 Weeks old

It is amazing how fast Chandler has grown! Here he is in the same outfit only 3 weeks apart- what a difference. If you saw him for real you would really be able to see how big he is now. It seems like he is older than 3 weeks because he holds his head up all the time and pushes up to stand (and because he weighs almost 10 pounds probably).

UNR Fan

  • Steve's Note: Chandler will be raised to be a fan of four teams. BYU, Nevada, Purdue, and the Red Sox (I would say the Lions too but my faith in them is dwindling pretty fast and I may be shopping for a new NFL team soon). Today was Wolf Pack day for him after his bath.

Chandler sporting his UNR gear.

He was so content just sitting on the bed. Notice how he still has a little growing to do before the socks fit:)

All tuckered out after watching sports all day.

He's gonna be a porker

Chandler having his first real bath. (This picture makes him look really fat but he doesn't really look like that!)

So today I took Chandler to the doctors for his 2 week check-up. He now weighs 9 lbs. 5 oz. and is 20.5 in. long. He has gained so much weight in just 2 weeks!! He has only grown an inch though. He seems a lot longer than that but I think it is because he stretches his legs out more instead of being curled up. Already a lot of his clothes seem smaller on him. It is amazing how fast babies grow. I have mixed emotions about it because I can't wait until he interacts more and I can actually play with him but he is so cute and tiny right now. I just want to get to the comfortable stage where breastfeeding is "enjoyable" (I'm told it will be......but I'm not buying that right now), I know what I'm doing, and I can actually have a routine. It is driving me nuts not having a schedule but babies don't have one for the first little bit so I guess I just have to deal with it.

I'm going solo now that my mom is gone. So far today hasn't been bad at all. I guess the part that is hardest for me is getting up at night and being up for an hour at a time. It sure was nice having my mom here helping me during the day. I miss her already but after tomorrow Steve will be around to help out more. He has done a great job already though. I feel bad because he needs to study and sleep and I made him watch Chandler this morning for a while. Steve is the best dad ever.........though he can't wait until Chandler interacts more and he can play with him.

Chandler enjoying his bath at the beginning. He decided he didn't like it much when I washed his hair at the end.

Steve trying to keep Chandler warm after his bath. The poor guy was so cold and got really upset with us.

Christmas Fever

Last week we went to get our Christmas tree. It was freezing cold outside and really windy so we left Chandler in the car with Grams while we picked out the tree. We took him out for a quick picture to document getting his first Christmas tree.
Here we are with the prized tree.

The top of the tree had a huge stray branch but when we got home we discovered that we didn't have any clippers so Steve had to go to extreme measures to try and cut it off. He is using a knife from the grill set.
The knife wasn't successful. The next day Mom B. went and bought us some clippers.
Mini-Santa with the coolest parents ever in front of his very first Christmas tree.

KateLyn's Senior picture

Katrina's mom brought us one of KateLyn's senior pictures. We wanted to put it up on our fridge but we only had one magnet available.

What do you think?

Our little man

Snuggling with Gramma Beeckel. During the day he is a stinker and only likes to sleep if he is being held. So far that hasn't carried over to the night. We're crossing our fingers that this doesn't become a habit.

All ready for church. We were all going to go to church today but the car is broken so Chandler and Katrina stayed home. We dressed him up anyway and had fun taking pictures. "Okay Mom and Dad, I've had enough of this dress-up! This tie is killing me!"
Chandler having his first tummy time. He was wide awake this morning so we thought it might be a good time to have him try out his playmat. He picks his head up very well and is always moving all around.

Simple Math

After listening to this phone conversation my faith in America has dwindled a bit. I am also wondering if I should switch phone companies.

I am suprised he is so patient.

12/9 Update- Here is the website that has been established by George.

Sucking on Dad's finger.
KateLyn made this hat for Chandler. It might be a while until it fits him though:)
Chandler's umbilical cord barely hanging on.

Wearing a super cute bear suit Grandma Beeckel got for him.
This is how Chandler goes to bed. He gets swaddled in his Kiddopotamus and he can't get his arms out so he sleeps a lot better. He always wears a hat to bed also.
All festive for the holidays.

The Birth Story

(Warning: May contain graphic details)

Most of you have already heard how it all went down but I thought I would write about it anyway. Tuesday morning was like any other day, we got up and ready for the day and went to my doctors appointment at 8:30 AM. (The one we weren't suppose to have to go to) We were nervous because we didn't know what the doctor would say and we're worried that maybe I was still only dilated 2 centimeters. Dr. Sunkel came in and checked me and got this surprised look on his face. He said I was 4 centimeters dilated. I hadn't felt any contractions that were painful. He again told us how weird this is for a first baby and Steve looked at me and said, "This is your first baby, right?" He made the doctor laugh a lot when he said that.

So we were given two choices..........(1) go over to the hospital right then and he would break my water, (2) wait a few days and get induced on Friday or Sunday. Steve was happy to miss school so we opted for option #1. It was kind of scary leaving the office. We went home, got our stuff together, picked up the house some, said a prayer, and left our house knowing that the next time I came back it would be with a baby. Once registered at the hospital I changed into a gown and got hooked up to the monitors while the nurse talked to me and I signed papers.

Me signing my life away.

The nurse who was with me for 98% of my labor.

(Steve's note: This nurse had some magical power over Katrina. I would ask Katrina if she wanted me to rub her back or do something. She would say "No, don't touch me." Michelle would then walk over start rubbing her back and Katrina was in heaven. I learned pretty quickly to just enjoy my seat in the recliner)

At about 11:15 AM Dr. Sunkel came in and broke my water. It didn't hurt at all.........just a very warm wet feeling. It just kept flowing out of me. Once the mess was cleaned up, I decided that I wanted to walk around for a while. We got ready and Steve and I walked the halls of the labor/delivery floor. When my stomach would tighten, it was starting to hurt a little bit so we went back to our room. I sat down for a while and we decided to go walk again so I could call my mom. The pain was starting to bother me now and I would have to stop walking until it was over so we decided to go back to our room. It was now going on 1:00 PM. The nurse got me the birthing ball to try and I used that for about half an hour but the contractions were starting to get really painful. I was trying to decide if it was time to get pain medication but had to wait for the doctor to come back.

Dr. Sunkel came back about 2:00 PM and I measured a 7 (which was good news considering how much pain I thought I was in). Steve left to call my mom and his mom and when he came back 15-minutes later the nurse was getting ready to check me again. I was a 10 and it was time to start pushing! (Therefore NO pain medication for me.) The next two hours were some of the most painful hours I have ever experienced (next to breastfeeding).

The contractions were so painful but in a weird way it actually made them feel better when I pushed, even though my butt hole felt like it was going to explode. (Steve's note: I tried to get her to edit this but she wants people to know what it really feels like). Once I could see Chandler's head in the overhead mirror I was motivated to get him out. Chandler was almost out and the nurse who was with me had to leave because her shift was up. She stayed about 15-minutes longer because she didn't want to miss him being born but she had to take her kid to basketball. Needless to say, Chandler was born about 2-minutes after she left. What a relief it was when he finally came out. He was born at 4:29 PM (only 5 hours of labor), weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz., and was 19 1/2 in. (He now weighs 8 lbs. 4 oz.!!)

Our first picture of Chandler about 5-seconds after he came out of me.

Steve cutting Chandler's cord.

(Steve's Note: In case you wanted to know, the rest of the cord fell off Tuesday, exactly a week after Chandler was born)

My first time holding Chandler.

This experience was the most amazing yet weird thing ever. It's just crazy to think that the little baby that got plopped on my chest was inside of me. Chandler is the cutest little boy ever. I am so thankful that we have been blessed to have this experience and the opportunity to be parents. (Though right now I'm thinking it isn't all that it's chalked up to be.....I'm very tired.)
