Named after Armand Marie Vincent Joseph Renier (26 June 1876, Verviers, Belgium - 9 October 1951, Leuze, Belgium), Director of the Geological Survey of Belgium. It was originally spelled reniérite, but the diacritic mark has since been dropped.
