Named for the Gaching ore occurrence of the Maletoyvayam epithermal deposit, Kamchatka, Russia, the type locality.
Known synthetic analogue. Chemically somewhat similar to maletoyvayamite and 'Unnamed (Au-Telluride-Selenide)'.

One of the very few minerals (as of 2021) with e-type slide plane in the structure.
