IndLinux is one of those selfless projects that aims to bring the joy of computing to those users who do not speak English. While the project's main goal is localisation of desktop Linux components into various Indian languages, the developers have also released a test live CD, code name "Rangoli" based on Morphix: "Hi all, I uploaded a test release of Rangoli live CD. I would like someone having a fat pipe to download and test it (check the md5sum etc). This build has Hindi (KDE), Tamil (KDE), Punjabi (GNOME), Bengali (GNOME). |
| The goal of the IndLinux project is to create a Linux distribution that supports Indian languages at all levels. This "Indianisation" project will strive to bring the benefits of Information Technology down to the Indian masses. We want to make technology accessible to the majority of India that does not speak English. The task of localisation has several pieces that need domain expertise. Some examples are I/O modules, development of fonts, kernel enhancements, word translation etc. The project is looking for experts and volunteers to champion the cause of Indian language computing. You may volunteer and participate here. The Indian Linux project is open source and completely free. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License.

Development Release: IndLinux "Rangoli" 1.0 Beta |

The Rangoli live CD is the product of IndLinux, a project dedicated to providing support for Indian languages in open source software. A new live CD demonstrating the current progress of the development team has been released: "Rangoli live CD 1.0 beta released. Rangoli is multilingual live CD from IndLinux.org based on Morphix. It boots directly into a chosen language desktop as available on boot menus. This is a demo and test release, primarily intended for testing out Indic stuff and not for production use. A final version should be coming up by the end of January." The distribution provides support for Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi, as well as Nepali and Dzongkha (the language of Bhutan).
