The Danix project, which produces a Czech live CD based on Debian GNU/Linux, has announced a new test release, version 2006.06.17b. According to the brief release announcement (in Czech), the new version includes OpenOffice.org 2.0.1, Firefox 1.5.0.3 (from Debian "etch"), KDE desktop 3.5.2, new code for hardware auto-configuration (which is not based on KNOPPIX, but rather aims to maintain compatibility with Debian), support for about a dozen languages (can be invoked by pressing F2 at boot prompt), and the ability to save changes to hard disk and re-master the live CD. The new Danix lacks a hard disk installer and updated documentation. The ISO image is available for download from here: danix.2006-06-17b.iso (697MB, MD5).

Distribution Release: Danix 2004.06.04 |
 |
A new version of Danix, a Czech KNOPPIX-based live CD, has been released: "What is in the new Danix? Everything you wished for. Kernel 2.6, ALSA, KDE 3.2.1, GIMP 2.0pre, Mozilla 1.6.x, Openoffice.org 1.1.1, KOffice1.3, and over a thousand of other packages. A simple installer in our mother tongue and support for Czech on the console. What is missing? Java, which is not open source, and MPlayer until we can figure out how to modify it legally." You can find more information (in Czech) on danix.cz. Download: DaNiX-2004.06.04.iso (698MB).

FLinux
FLinux is a minimalist Linux distribution forked from Tiny Core Linux. It is built with FLTK, a cross-platform C++ GUI toolkit. The distribution uses the flwm window manager and includes a bare minimum of lightweight applications, such as Dillo (a web browser), Fluff (a file manager) and flpicsee (an image viewer). Extra applications can be install through a graphical software management utility and the project maintains a repository of custom-built packages, in addition to those provided by Tiny Core Linux. The distribution is available in two variants - one without any WiFi support and one with a wide range of wireless firmware included. FLinux is designed to be extremely lightweight; it can run in installed mode without swap on systems with as little as 96 MB of memory.
