Monday

Today was the first day of flooring installation!! Bill (the flooring guy) had a bit of prep work to do before laying the wood. While he was working inside, I spend some time out in the sunshine!


I primed and painted the kitchen drawers, but they still need another coat or two so that they are evenly painted and don't show brush strokes.

While the paint was drying, I weeded the front flowerbed. There were a lot more weeds than I thought, but sitting in the sunshine was lovely. I'm glad that the front of our house is becoming more presentable along with the inside!

Here is the first part of the flooring down. It is so amazing how it looks different depending on the light (just look at the top two pictures, they are of the same area, but one has the light on and one has it with natural light).

Chris and I are both off tomorrow, so we will be painting, watching the flooring going in, and more packing. Enjoy your Tuesday!

I have many pictures to post, but I haven't had time to upload/download (whatever) them so this post has none.

Tomorrow (today really) starts the final push of housework before we move in!!!! Installation is starting today on our wood floors and carpet; hopefully we will find the perfect paint colors for the last two rooms that need paint; and the new kitchen sink is being delivered today.

We are busy packing, packing, packing as we are moving in on Saturday!! I am ready to be moved in, to find the perfect spot for our decor and feel settled. I know those will take awhile, but I am really happy with the changes that we have made to the house and that we were able to take our time to move.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the flooring makes the house feel complete and hopefully I will be able to post some pictures and updates soon!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!

We did a lot of work on the house these last four days and my computer was finally cooperating so here are the pictures!
FRIDAY:

We bought our new baseboards from home depot...and had a fun ride getting them home. They stretched from the very back of the truck to almost the end of the hood. We definitely got some stares, but thankfully we didn't have far to drive (and they all made it in one piece).

One of our first tasks for the weekend was to demo the existing tile in the guest bathroom (demo is fun!) and we were safe wearing our eye protection.

SATURDAY:

Yes, I made Chris pose for this! He is ready to finish painting in his coveralls.

A bit of paint had dripped onto the newly filled-in pit, and I turned it into a heart. Now there will always be love as the base of our house!

Mom and Dad made it down to help us for three days and we are SO thankful for their help! We accomplished a lot and we are almost ready to move in!

Mom attacked the bushes on the side of the entryway and we are going to find something new to plant in their place (or install some lights instead). Dad and I attempted to put in our new mailbox, but we didn't have the right tools, so that will have to wait.

Painting was another item we checked off of our lists; we all painted (new) doors, baseboards, the front door, trim, etc.

All fresh with semi-gloss white on white paint.

We also painted the window trim in the kitchen semi-gloss white, getting rid of the dated gold. It is such an easy update to do, just a can of primer and a can of white spray paint makes a huge difference!

The old sink was broken and really scratched so Dad was able to remove it for us, a task that was more difficult than any of us thought it would be. Hopefully we will get a new sink ordered today or tomorrow.We also got the beams in the den painted to brighten them up. The ceiling is painted an off white color and the beams are now painted the same as the walls, so they are noticeable, but not standing out as much.

We really like the color on the bottom half of our master bedroom wall, but we are struggling with finding a good coordinating color for the top half, above the chair rail. The windows had tinting on them, so everyone helped to peel it off.

Uncle Robert came up for the day and helped us paint and clean. Here he and Dad are taking down the shelves in the closet for them to be painted. Again, we stuck with white paint to keep it bright.

The biggest project of the weekend was tiling the guest bathroom. Our dear friends, Patti and Kevin, let us borrow their tile saw and we were able to get the floor done in two days. Dad and Chris handled this project while Mom and I finished painting and other little projects.

Taa Daa! Chris and Dad did a GREAT job on the floor. I could have made it easier by having the tiles laid straight out, but we wanted that little extra touch and had them put down on the diagonal. I am so impressed with how it turned out, we love the tile color we chose.

I was glad to be at work yesterday, so that my muscles could get a little break, but we are just about to head back to the house to finish putting in baseboards and spend the day working on it.

Update!

We worked long and hard this past weekend, even missing the Superbowl to work on painting and sawing and nailing, etc. I have lots of pictures to post, but my computer was not cooperating last night when I tried to load them.



I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to My parents, Uncle Robert, and Chris for everyone's hard work this weekend. We got a lot done, there was some good teaching happening, and great teamwork. So thank you all for your help, we would be lost without you!!!
