A tip

At work we have a fridge for each shift and a freezer that we all share. Our freezer gets pretty packed with food and goes on the fritz quite often. Since we're not at work every day, I'm often wondering if our freezer has warmed up while I was gone and if my food has just refrozen without my knowing it.

Then one day I realized an easy way to tell if this has happened. Here's my tip for you:

Buy some of these individual servings of ice cream from the market. {I suggest buying a few and one in a flavor you don't like}.

Buy a few because, well...they're delicious!

But the one flavor you don't like will be the one you use for your freezer temp indicator.

{So you're not as tempted to eat it} 

Take one ice cream, put it in the freezer resting on it's side.

If you are concerned that your freezer might have warmed up while you were gone {say on vacation}, all you have to do is open your little ice cream and see if it has refrozen. The air pocket would now be on the side of the carton when it is held upright, indicating that the ice cream had thawed and froze again while on it's side.

And if it doesn't look like it had thawed, then go ahead and enjoy your little ice cream cup since it's open!

Updating

I'm trying to update the blog a little bit, make it more "me". {When the little one is sleeping and I have a chance to catch up on blogs chores.}.

Does anyone have suggestions for places to find fun backgrounds and headers? I only know of shabbyblogs.com and I can't seem to center any of their headers.

A hard decision

We have two cats: Jack (male) and Brick (female). We adopted them from a rescue group when they were 8 weeks old and they are now 2 1/2 years old. They aren't siblings but were raised in the same foster home before coming home with us.

Chris has always had allergies, but as long as he washed his hands after touching the cats it wasn't really a problem, we just kept them out of our bedroom. Then we were at the hospital for 5 days and once we came home it was obvious how severe his allergies really are (he had trouble breathing very soon after getting home).

His allergies combined with Bailey being here (and my worrying about her having allergies) has made us come to the difficult decision that we need to find a new home for them. We would prefer that they are adopted together and that they go to a loving home instead of back to the rescue group where we got them from.

They are litter box trained, very loving (Jack is a bit of a scaredy cat and often hides, but is a cuddle bug once he knows you), mostly indoor cats, have their shots and are fixed.

This was a hard decision for us, but we are hopeful that we can find a loving home for them with people who will love them as we have. NYC...get a rope!

Chris and I are going to be heading to New York in August. I'm super excited because the farthest east I have been in Las Vegas and I'm looking forward to so many things! I'm going to have my own personal tour guide because the main reason we are going is to visit Chris' family and he has been to NY many times.

I want to experience the hustle and bustle of Times Square, the beauty of Central Park, and stand in awe of The Statue of Liberty.

There is so much to see and do and experience and taste! Here is where I need your help: with so much to pack into our short 2 or 3 day trip into the city (grandparents live about three hours away, so we will spend a few days in the city before heading to their house) what do you think we should include? What's your favorite part of NY?

Senseless!

Some of you may have heard about the SF Giants fan who was beaten after attending a Giants vs. Dodgers game in LA last week (a game that the Dodgers won). He was wearing clothing that supported the Giants While on the way to his vehicle after the game, he was hit in the head from behind by a fan of the Dodgers and beaten into unconsciousness. I have been to Giants vs. Dodgers games in LA and have been nervous to wear my Giants gear because dodgers fans are rowdy, loud, and sometimes scary. I think that because Chris is usually wearing his Dodger gear, people leave me alone. As fans, we should not have to fear for our lives because we support one team over another.

IT'S JUST A GAME!

I don't understand how someone could come up behind another person and injure them, for any reason!

Another reason I find it important to give help to this family (the victim has two young children), is because the Bryan is a paramedic for AMR (the same company that Chris works for). While Bryan works up in Northern California and we don't know him, it is still the same emergency services "family". We are going to give support and if possible, I ask that you give what you can as well - whether that be financial support for the family, spreading the word of this incident to help catch the suspects, or thoughts and prayers for the family.

Bryan is in a coma with major brain trauma at a hospital in LA. Please keep him and his young family in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and that the police catch the people who did this senseless act.

Baseball should be fun, not dangerous.
