BBC Radio history, coverage, features
BBC Radio is a business division of the British Broadcasting Corporation. This service covers general information, local news, and sports coverage. Furthermore, BBC Radio also covers the vast majority of musical genres. It was launched back in 1922, and it began working under a Royal Charter on January 1, 1927.
BBC Radio’s national stations are available on analogue radio. Other platforms include digital radio, BBC’s iPlayer and digital platforms. The service’s headquarters are located in London, but radio shows are also produced in the local offices in Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Manchester.
Over the years, BBC Radio has increased its offering to keep users up to date with what is going on in the world. The BBC runs eleven national domestic radio stations, six of which are only available in a digital format. Furthermore, the BBC runs local radio stations for three national regions: Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. These stations have added to their regular musical programming some phone-in debates to discuss current local affairs.
BBC also operates a broadcasting service known as BBC World Service. It works in over 25 languages via analogue and digital shortwave, internet streaming, satellite radio, FM radio, and podcasting. All services are available 24/7.
