I have big area where Heliconia grow wildly. They have conquered the whole space and become like small jungle. It's very near to my car porch. A nice natural shaded place for many plants but unfortunately, It has become a favorite place for snakes. I saw long black colour snake in this "small jungle" last week. I nearly step onto the snake as i was not wearing my lens/ glasses.....Phew.....That's it....I have decided to remove the whole plant as it's so inviting place for cold blooded animals.....!

White flowers!

We always overlook the beauty of vegetables flowers. In real they do have pretty flowers too! Water spinach is one of them. I always look at them in the point of view of how green and lush they are but today I'm posting about how beautiful are their white flowers!

Marigold!

I'm always searching for seeds and plants...more and more! Sometimes i feel my garden is a bit like nursery!

Many plants are from my fond memories of childhood! Marigold is one of it! In Malay language it's called "bunga tahi ayam" or direct translation to English is " chicken drop" . Does it look like one? I wonder why such a pretty flowers has a such terrible name....hahahahaa!

My Marigold that i planted from seeds has started flowering!!! It's almost my height!

Holiday activity!

Tomorrow is Public Holiday here in Malaysia to celebrate Malaysia Day . It's the day Sabah and Sarawak join Malaya and become Malaysia as today! So i have 3 days of continuous leaves! This is most waited time for many working people when the Public holiday Fall on Friday! ;)

I have some gardening work to be done. The Pak Choy are getting old. The leaves are yellowing and not much or new leaves produced. It's time for me to clean this place and start new planting!

Growing Broccolli

Planting Broccoli in hot weather is definitely not a good idea. I have few more seeds from the packet which i bought long time ago. Since some pots was available, i just sow the seeds. It grow well and grasshoppers are having a feast now! I use to see many of them on the leaves.

Usually i just harvest the leaves to stir fry lightly. It doesn't form head but become bolt in hot weather. Anyway the leaves are tasty too for me and grasshoppers!! hahhaaa...

Roses

I have no luck with Roses. My mum grows very beautiful and healthy roses at my hometown. Totally opposite to mine.....sigh.....

The growth will be so good in the beginning. After some months, their leaves wrinkle and the growth stop! Anyone who is expert in rose planting out there?

Henna

Henna is a tall shrub used to dye skin, fingers, nails, leathers and wools. It's known as Lawsonia inermis or mignonette tree.

I planted branch of this plant after grinding the leaves for my hair! To colour and hide my grey hair ! hahahaa.... I never seen this plant at where i live now so i took the branches from my hometown. So i decided to plant the branches and see if they grow.

Fortunately they grow well.

Some of the benefit of henna that i found:

1) For skin dyeing, a paste of ground henna (either prepared from a dried powder or from fresh ground leaves) is placed in contact with the skin from a few hours to overnight. Henna stains can last a few days to a month depending on the quality of the paste, individual skin type, and how long the paste is allowed to stay on the skin.


2) Henna also acts as an anti-fungal and a preservative for leather and cloth.


3)Henna flowers have been used to create perfume since ancient times.

4)Henna repels some insect pests and mildew.

The stem cutting of Indian Borage. More leaves have been added. I have blogged about the goodness of the leaves before. Therefore i planted few of them around the house

Cabbage

Cabbages are forming head now. They look so juicy for the grasshopper that it never realized that I'm going to catch it after this snap!!

This is my second attempt. The head will be small since i planted them near to each other. Nevertheless I bet the taste is not impaired! I still can remember the fresh taste of my first cabbages. So juicy and crunchy!

Roselle jam biscuit

I saw 2 small bottles of  Roselle jam in the fridge and wonder what shall I do.We seldom eat bread. The jam looks so yummy that I decided to do biscuit with them!

I modified the Pineapple Jam Tart recipe and make the Roselle jam as the filing! It tasted so heaven! Very rich taste!

The recipe are the same as pineapple tart and i think most of us know it!

Now i have bottle full of Roselle jam tart! hahhaha...

Gone???

The other day i tied all my mangoes in the paper. It was big and but haven't ripe. I was worried about pest. I never thought about monkeys as i thought they have left my garden alone. It's been 2 months since i saw them.

Unfortunately they came after so long and took all my 6-7 big mangoes! Damn! Every time i have big vision to my garden, here comes the monkeys to spoilt everything!

May be as last option i need to have dog to chase them!!

Star fruit plant

It's been quite sometime since i check my star fruit tree. It has definitely grow taller and stronger. I know i have to wait few more years for the fruits but for now i shall enjoy the tree growth. So lush and green!

 I hope to have a edible garden where my kids and the grand kids can just walk around to pluck the fruits to eat. That's what i imagine when i planted few fruit trees in my garden. It reminds me of my hometown and my childhood memories!
